Introduction
Introduction to Ma'asei HaShlichim (The Acts of the Apostles)
Within the Framework of The Ivri Heritage Bible
The dynamic, historical chronicle presented here, titled Ma'asei HaShlichim (מַעֲשֵׂי הַשְּׁלִיחִים — The Deeds of the Sent Ones / Acts of the Apostles), serves as the definitive structural bridge within The Ivri Heritage Bible. It documents the explosive expansion of the early Netzarim movement from a localized group of disciples in Jerusalem to an international community spanning the Roman Empire, Spain, and the British Isles. Transmitted as the strategic continuation of the historical record dedicated to Theophilos, this scroll captures the physical ascension of the Messiah, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Shavuot, the foundational rulings of the Jerusalem Council, and the exhaustive missionary journeys of the emissaries.
Operating within a precise Hebraized linguistic framework based upon the Septuagint (LXX) textual lineage, this translation honors the explicit source text of Ma'asei HaShlichim. By systematically stripping away late Western and Hellenized ecclesiastical jargon, it recovers the native Hebrew vocabulary, Temple liturgical hours, and prophetic blueprints that prove the early assembly was not a new, breakaway religion, but the authentic restoration of the scattered House of Yisrael through the corporate realization of the New Covenant.
Textual Methodology: Restoring Sacred Names and the Hebraic Lexicon
An essential hallmark of The Ivri Heritage Bible is the scrupulous restoration of original Hebrew vocabulary, technical descriptors, and institutional designations directly within the historical narrative:
• The Divine Names and Titles: The supreme covenantal Name Yahuah (יְהוָה) is systematically restored alongside Elohim (אֱלֹהִים), El Elyon (אֵל עֶלְיוֹן — God Most High), and HaAv (הָאָב — the Father). The glorified King is explicitly identified as Yeshua HaMashiach (יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ — Jesus the Messiah), who is recognized as Yeshua HaNatzri (Yeshua of Nazareth), the Ben Elohim (Son of God), and the ultimate prophetic Ben Adam (Son of Man).
• The Sanctuary and Liturgical Framework: The text maintains the accurate topography of the Jerusalem Temple, utilizing designations like the Heychal (הֵיכָל — Temple building), the holy court of Ulam Shlomo (Solomon's Porch), the landmark HaSha'ar HaYafeh (the Beautiful Gate), and the historic Mishkan haEdut (Tabernacle of Testimony). Daily actions are synchronized with the sha'at hatefillah (hour of prayer), utilizing traditional Hebrew categories like individual or corporate tefillah (prayer) and tefillot (prayers), alongside the ritual blessing of betziat halechem (the breaking of the bread) and the thanksgiving offering of todah.
• Covenantal Personnel and Authority: The leadership framework features the
authorized emissaries or shlichim executing their unique mandate of shlichut
(apostleship). The regional assemblies are defined as the kehillah (קְהִלָּה — congregation/assembly) or collective kehillot, under the governance of local elders or Zekenim operating as Pokdim (overseers) and Ro'im (shepherds). Devout learners are designated as talmidim (disciples) or talmidah (female disciple), and the global body of believers is explicitly identified by their historical Hebraic title: HaNotzrim (The Nazarenes / Messianin).
• The Vocabulary of Ritual and Law: Spiritual entry and alignment are tracked through the tevilah (טְבִילָה — immersion), the covenant of Milah (circumcision), and the lifestyle of teshuvah (repentance). Legal accountability centers on the execution of the Torah (תּוֹרָה — law), the interpretation of the Sofrim (scribes), the study of the beit midrash (house of study), and the decrees or gezarot issued by the ruling Sanhedrin council.
• Prophetic Metrics, Time, and Space: Visionary directives are received via a chazon (vision), guided directly by the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) or a heavenly malach (angel). The narrative landscape coordinates with the sacred calendar, tracking events through Shavuot (Feast of Weeks), Chag HaMatzot (Feast of Unleavened Bread / Pesach), Yom HaBikkurim, the daily Sefirat HaOmer count, and the annual autumn Tzom (the Fast of Yom Kippur). Topography preserves its native Hebraic mapping, including Yerushalayim, Yehudah, Galil (Galilee), Shomron (Samaria), Mitzrayim (Egypt), Bavel (Babylon), the Yam Suf (Red Sea), Har HaZeitim (Mount of Olives), and the execution landscape of HaEtz (הָעֵץ — the Tree / cross).
Prophetic Architecture and Critical Narrative Themes
The text of Ma'asei HaShlichim unfolds across seven monumental structural movements, tracking the geopolitical and cosmic transition of the Messianic announcement.
1. The Ascension, the Aliyah, and the Choice of Mattityah (Chapter 1)
The narrative opens by linking back to the first treatise written to Theophilos, summarizing all that Yeshua began to do and teach until the day He was taken up into heaven. After His passion, the Messiah spends forty days appearing to the chosen shlichim, providing infallible proofs and instructing them concerning the malkhut (kingdom) of Elohim. He explicitly orders them not to leave Yerushalayim, but to wait for the promise of HaAv—clarifying that while Yochanan immersed with physical mayim (water), they would soon be immersed with the Ruach HaKodesh. When the disciples ask if He will restore the malkhut to Yisrael at that specific time, Yeshua declares that the times and seasons are held exclusively in the Father's authority. He issues their primary geopolitical blueprint: they will receive power when the Ruach descends, acting as His witnesses in Yerushalayim, all Yehudah, Shomron, and to the uttermost parts of the aretz. Following this command, Yeshua ascends into heaven from Har HaZeitim (Mount of Olives), hidden by a cloud, as two angels in white garments promise that He will return in the exact same manner. The disciples return to Yerushalayim and assemble in an aliyah (upper room), continuing with one accord in tefillah alongside Miryam and His brothers. Keifa stands up before the hundred and twenty gathered talmidim to address the vacancy left by Yehudah (Judas), who betrayed the Master and met a violent death in the field called Akeldama (Field of Blood). Citing the Psalms ("his office let another take"), the assembly sets forward two men who accompanied them from the tevilah of Yochanan to the Ascension. After praying to Yahuah, who knows the levot (hearts) of all men, they cast lots, and Mattityah is formally numbered with the eleven shlichim.
2. Shavuot and the Outpouring of the Ruach HaKodesh (Chapter 2)
Chapter 2 documents the cosmic climax of the early assembly: the arrival of the festival of Shavuot (Feast of Weeks). As the disciples sit with one accord in one place, a sudden sound like a rushing mighty wind fills the entire house, accompanied by the appearance of split leshonot (tongues) like as of esh (fire) resting upon each individual. Filled with the Ruach HaKodesh, they begin to speak in other languages as the Spirit gives utterance. Devout Yahudim gathered in Yerushalayim from every nation under heaven assemble in amazement, hearing the nifle'ot (wonderful works) of Elohim declared fluently in their own native tongues. While mockers attribute the phenomenon to new wine (yayin), Keifa stands up with the eleven to deliver his definitive public derashah. He notes it is only the third hour of the day (9:00 AM) and declares the event to be the literal fulfillment of the navi Yoel (Joel 2:28–32): "And it shall come to pass in the last days, says Elohim, I will pour out of My Ruach upon all flesh." Keifa outlines the cosmic signs of the sun turning to darkness and the moon to blood before the great Yom Yahuah, pointing to the ironclad promise: "whoever shall call on the Shem of Yahuah shall be saved." He charges the crowd with the execution of Yeshua HaNatzri, a man approved by Elohim through miracles, signs, and wonders, whom they slew by lawless hands but whom Elohim raised up, loosing the chevlei ha'mavet (birth pangs of death). Keifa utilizes Psalm 16 to prove that the patriarch David explicitly prophesied the tkhiyat (resurrection) of the Messiah, knowing his own soul would be left in She'ol while the Messiah's flesh would never see corruption. Exalted to the right hand of Elohim and fulfilling Psalm 110 ("Yahuah said unto my Adonai, Sit at my right hand"), Yeshua has shed forth the Spirit. Pierced to the heart, the crowd asks what they must do, prompting Keifa's foundational directive: "Do teshuvah, and be immersed every one of you in the Shem of Yeshua HaMashiach for the remission of sins." About three thousand nefashot (souls) are immersed that day, initiating a community that continues steadfastly in the shlichim's teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and corporate tefillot, meeting daily inside the Temple (Heychal) and sharing all possessions in common.
3. Miracles in the Heychal and Persecution by the Sanhedrin (Chapters 3–5)
Chapter 3 opens with Keifa and Yochanan entering the Heychal at the ninth hour—the traditional time of the minchah evening tefillah. At HaSha'ar HaYafeh (the Beautiful Gate), they encounter a man lame from his mother's womb asking for alms. Keifa utters the iconic command: "Kesef (silver) and zahav (gold) have I none, but such as I have, give I you: In the Shem of Yeshua HaMashiach HaNatzri, rise up and walk." The man is instantly healed, leaping and praising Elohim inside the Temple courts. As a astonished crowd runs together to the porch of Ulam Shlomo (Solomon's Porch), Keifa delivers his second major address, explaining that this miracle was not executed by their own power or holiness, but by the Name of the Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Ya'akov, who has glorified His Servant Yeshua. He calls the nation to teshuvah so their sins may be blotted out and the times of refreshing (itot hateshuvah) may arrive from the presence of Yahuah, who will send the Messiah to bring the tikkun kol hadavarim (restoration of all things) foretold by all the prophets. Keifa explicitly quotes Deuteronomy 18:15 to confirm that Yeshua is the ultimate Prophet raised up like unto Moshe, whom every nefesh must obey or face total destruction from among the people. Chapters 4 and 5 document the escalating conflict with the ruling elite. Grieved by the preaching of the resurrection (tkhiyat hameitim), the priests, Sadducees (Tzaddukim), and the captain of the Temple arrest Keifa and Yochanan, bringing them before the high priest Chanan, Kayafa, and the assembled Sanhedrin. Filled with the Ruach, Keifa boldly identifies Yeshua as ha'even she'ma'asu haBonim (the stone rejected by the builders) which has become the rosh pinnah (head of the corner), declaring: "Neither is there yeshuah (salvation) in any other: for there is no other Shem under Shamayim given among men by which we must be saved." Commandment to cease speaking in the Name is flatly refused: "We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." After their release, the kehillah lifts its voice in one accord, chanting Psalm 2 ("Why did the goyim rage... against Yahuah and against His Mashiach?"), resulting in a literal earthquake shaking their meeting place as they are refilled with boldness. Chapter 5 details the internal purity of the community, documented by the immediate divine execution of Chananyah and Shafira for lying to the Ruach HaKodesh regarding the sale price of their land. As signs and wonders multiply through the shlichim in Solomon's Porch, the high priest and the Sadducees throw the emissaries into a common prison, only for a malach of Yahuah to unlock the doors by night, ordering them to return to the Temple to teach. Brought back before the council, Keifa delivers the ultimate baseline of spiritual defiance: "We ought to obey Elohim rather than men." The renowned Perushi moreh Torah, Gamli'el HaZaken (grandson of Hillel), counsels the Sanhedrin to leave the men alone, presenting a permanent historical standard: "if it be of Elohim, you cannot overthrow it, lest perhaps you be found even to fight against Elohim." The shlichim are beaten and released, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His Name.
4. The Ministry of Stefanos and the First Martyrdom (Chapters 6–7)
Chapter 6 marks a major administrative expansion within the talmidim. A dispute arises between the Greek-speaking (Yevanim) and Hebrew-speaking (Ivrim) disciples because their widows (almanot) are neglected in the daily food distribution (sherut). The twelve shlichim declare they must not abandon the Davar Elohim to serve tables, ordering the choice of seven men of honest report, full of wisdom and the Spirit, to handle the business. The assembly selects Stefanos, Filippos, and five others, ordaining them through the formal laying on of hands (smikhah). Full of emunah and power, Stefanos performs immense signs and wonders, provoking intense opposition from various synagogues. Unable to resist the chokhmah (wisdom) by which he speaks, subversives set up false witnesses to accuse him before the Sanhedrin of speaking blasphemous words against the Holy Place and the Torah of Moshe. As the council gazes upon him, his face shines like the face of an angel, mirroring the radiant kavod of Moshe descending from Sinai. Chapter 7 documents Stefanos' historical, panoramic defense speech before the high priest. He maps the entire covenant narrative from the original call of Avraham in Mesopotamia through the covenant of circumcision (Beriyt HaMilah), the trials of Yosef in Egypt, and the birth of Moshe. He emphasizes that Moshe encountered a malach of Yahuah in a flaming bush (sneh) on holy ground (admat kodesh), led Yisrael through the Yam Suf, and spent forty years in the midbar leading the kehillah b'midbar (the assembly in the wilderness). Stefanos notes that despite receiving the living oracles (imrei chayyim), the ancestors consistently rebelled, constructing the Golden Calf (egel) and chasing the idolatrous host of heaven as recorded by the prophet Amos. He tracks the physical settings of worship from the portable Mishkan haEdut built according to the heavenly pattern (tavnit) to the solid Temple built by Shlomo, before delivering a devastating prophetic indictment citing Isaiah 66: "Elyon does not dwell in temples made with hands... Shamayim is My kise, and aretz is My footstool: What house will you build Me? says Yahuah." Stefanos blasts the council as stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, resisting the Ruach HaKodesh just as their fathers did, betraying and murdering the Righteous One (HaTzaddik). Enraged, the Sanhedrin gnashes their teeth. Full of the Holy Spirit, Stefanos looks steadfastly into heaven, beholding the kavod Elohim and cries: "Behold, I see the Shamayim opened, and the Ben Adam standing at the right hand of Elohim!" The crowd rushes upon him, casts him out of the city, and stones him to death. The witnesses lay down their garments at the feet of a young man named Sha'ul. Stefanos seals his testimony with an echo of Yeshua's execution prayer: "Master Yeshua, receive my Ruach... Yahuah, lay not this sin to their charge."
5. The Expansion to Shomron and the Conversion of Sha'ul (Chapters 8–9)
Chapter 8 documents the strategic transition of the movement out of Jerusalem. A wave of intense persecution spearheaded by Sha'ul shatters the Jerusalem congregation, scattering the believers throughout Yehudah and Shomron. Filippos goes down to a city of Shomron, preaching the Messiah, casting out unclean spirits (ruchot teme'ot), and exposing Shim'on HaMakshef (Simon the Sorcerer), who amazed the Samaritans with his sorceries (kishuf). Hearing that Samaria had received the Word, the apostles send Keifa and Yochanan to lay hands (smikhah) upon the new converts so they receive the Ruach HaKodesh. When Simon offers money to purchase this spiritual power, Keifa delivers a fierce rebuke: "Your kesef perish with you, because you have thought that the gift of Elohim may be purchased with money." Filippos is then directed by a malach to the desert road going down to Gaza, where he encounters an Ethiopian eunuch (saris) of great authority under Queen Kandake, reading Yesha'yahu HaNavi in his chariot. The Spirit orders Filippos to join the chariot, where he finds the saris reading the core text of the Servant Song (Isaiah 53:7–8): "He was led as a HaSeh to the slaughter, and like a silent lamb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth." Beginning at that exact scripture, Filippos proclaims Yeshua to him, resulting in the instant immersion of the Ethiopian in a nearby body of water before Filippos is caught away by the Spirit. Chapter 9 documents the pivotal Damascus road encounter. Still breathing out threats against the disciples of HaDerekh (The Way), Sha'ul obtains letters from the high priest to hunt believers in Damascus. As he nears the city, a blinding light from heaven flashes around him, and he falls to the earth, hearing a voice calling in a distinct divine doubling pattern: "Sha'ul, Sha'ul, why do you persecute Me?" Yeshua reveals Himself as the one being persecuted and strikes Sha'ul blind for three days. Yahuah commands a disciple in Damascus named Chananyah to locate Sha'ul, overriding Chananyah's fear by declaring: "he is a keli nivchar (chosen vessel) unto Me, to bear My Shem before goyim, and melakhim, and the B'nei Yisrael." Chananyah enters, calls him Ach Sha'ul (Brother Sha'ul), and restores his sight, prompting Sha'ul's immediate tevilah. Sha'ul instantly turns to the synagogues, proving that Yeshua is the Ben Elohim and HaMashiach, forcing him to escape a lethal plot by being lowered down the city wall in a basket. Bar-Nava acts as a bridge to introduce the transformed Sha'ul to the highly suspicious shlichim in Jerusalem. The chapter concludes by tracking Keifa's regional miracles: he heals the paralyzed Aeneas at Lod and raises the dead disciple Tavita (Tabitha/Dorcas) at Yafo through the Aramaic/Hebrew command: "Tavita, kumi!" Keifa establishes his lodging in Joppa with Shim'on HaBursi (Simon the Tanner)—a profession dealing in animal hides that carries permanent ritual purity implications.
6. The Inclusion of the Goyim and the Jerusalem Council (Chapters 10–15)
Chapters 10 and 11 detail the structural breakthrough that broke down the wall between Jew and Gentile. In Caesarea, a devout, god-fearing centurion named Kornelius receives an angelic vision ordering him to send for Keifa. Simultaneously in Joppa, Keifa falls into a trance on a rooftop during the sixth hour, beholding a great sheet let down from heaven filled with all manner of clean and unclean beasts, accompanied by a voice commanding: "Rise, Keifa; slaughter and eat." Keifa refuses, citing his strict adherence to the Torah laws of kashrut ("I have never eaten anything that is tameh"), prompting the heavenly response: "What Elohim has made tahor, that call not tameh." Arriving at Kornelius' house, Keifa decodes the vision, declaring that it is not about food metadata, but about humanity: "Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man tameh or unclean." As Keifa preaches the Gospel, the Ruach HaKodesh falls directly upon the uncircumcised Gentiles, triggering them to speak in languages just as happened at the original Shavuot. Keifa orders their immediate tevilah in water. In Chapter 11, Keifa returns to Jerusalem to defend his actions against the circumcision party, expounding the event until the elders hold their peace and glorify Elohim for granting the goyim teshuvah unto life. The narrative notes that the scattered disciples establish a massive, multi-ethnic congregation at Antioch, where the talmidim are explicitly designated by their historic title Messianin (Μεσσίαν / Followers of the Messiah) for the first time. Chapter 12 details the martyrdom of Ya'akov the brother of Yochanan by Herod Agrippa I, followed by the miraculous jailbreak of Keifa during Chag HaMatzot (Passover), executed by an angel of Yahuah while the congregation offers ceaseless tefillot. Herod is struck down by an angel and eaten by worms for taking divine glory, while the Davar Elohim grows unhindered. Chapter 13 and 14 follow the first formal missionary journey of Sha'ul and Bar-Nava, set apart by the Holy Spirit via smikhah at Antioch. In Pisidian Antioch, Sha'ul delivers a massive synagogue derashah, outlining Yisrael's history from the Exodus to King David, proving that Yeshua is the promised seed who rose from the dead without seeing corruption (shachat). Facing intense Jewish opposition, Sha'ul triggers a major turning point by citing Isaiah 49:6: "I have set you to be an or lagoyim (light to the nations), that you should be for yeshuah unto the ends of the aretz." In Lystra, after healing a lifelong cripple, the pagan crowd attempts to offer sacrifices to Sha'ul and Bar-Nava as Zeus and Hermes, forcing the shlichim to perform a formal keri'ah (tearing of garments) in horror at the blasphemy, urging them to turn from empty vanities (hevelim) to the living Elohim. Sha'ul survives a brutal stoning, returns through the cities to ordain Zekenim in every kehillah, and reports back to Antioch. Chapter 15 documents the landmark Jerusalem Council. Certain men from Yehudah insist that Gentile believers must undergo circumcision after the manner of Moshe to be saved, creating massive dissension. The shlichim and elders assemble in Jerusalem to adjudicate the lawsuit. Keifa notes that Elohim purified the Gentile hearts by faith, labeling the strict demand a yoke that neither their fathers nor they could bear. Ya'akov (the brother of Yeshua) presides over the court and issues the definitive ruling, leveraging the Septuagint (LXX) reading of Amos 9:11–12 to prove that the restoration of the fallen Mishkan David explicitly includes the goyim upon whom the Name of Yahuah is called. The council drafts a formal iggeret (letter) to the Gentile assemblies, imposing four absolute prohibitions designed to allow holy cohabitation within the commonwealth of Yisrael, drawing from the holiness frameworks of Leviticus 17–18: abstain from things offered to idols, from dam (blood), from things strangled, and from zenut (fornication). Ya'akov notes the underlying operational assumption in verse 21: Gentile converts will naturally master the wider Torah over time because "Moshe of old time has in every city them that preach him, being read in the batei knesset every Shabbat." Sha'ul and Bar-Nava split over a dispute regarding Yochanan Markos; Bar-Nava sails to Cyprus, while Sha'ul selects Silas to launch his next campaign.
7. The European Campaign, the Roman Legal Trials, and the Ends of the Aretz (Chapters 16–29) Chapters 16 through 20 document Sha'ul's extensive travels through Greece and Asia Minor. In Lystra, he recruits Timotiyos, circumcising him to prevent offense among the local Jewish population, and circulates the Jerusalem gezarot (decrees). Guided by the Macedonian Vision, the team crosses into Europe, establishing their first base in Philippi. They meet for tefillah by a river, leading to the immersion of Lydia, a seller of sacred purple (argaman). After Sha'ul casts out a spirit of divination (ruach kessem) from a slave girl, the masters throw Sha'ul and Silas into an inner prison. At midnight (chatzot), as they pray and sing praises, a violent ra'ash (earthquake) shatters the prison foundations and unlocks the bonds, leading to the dramatic immersion of the Roman jailer and his household. In Chapter 17, Sha'ul reasons in the synagogue of Thessalonica before moving to Berea, where the residents are highly praised as noble because they searched the Scriptures daily to evaluate his claims. Arriving in Athens, Sha'ul's spirit is provoked by the rampant idolatry, prompting his famous address at the Areios Pagos (Areopagus). Using an altar dedicated To The Unknown Elohim, he declares the Creator who made the world and does not dwell in temples made with hands, commanding all men to do teshuvah because Yahuah has appointed a Day to judge the world in righteousness through the Man He raised from the dead (Tkhiyat HaMeitim). In Chapter 18, Sha'ul spends a year and a half in Corinth working as a tentmaker (osei ohalim) alongside Aquila and Priscilla, before cutting his hair at Cenchrea to complete a strict Nazirite vow. In Chapter 19, Sha'ul establishes a two-year teaching hub at Ephesus inside the beit midrash of Tyrannus, triggering such massive teshuvah that sorcery books worth fifty thousand silver pieces are publicly burned, causing a massive economic riot led by the local silversmiths who manufacture shrines for Artemis. In Chapter 20, during the days of Chag HaMatzot at Troas, Sha'ul extends a derashah until midnight on the first day of the Sefirat HaOmer count, resulting in the young man Eutykhos falling out of a third-story window to his death, only for Sha'ul to raise him alive. Sha'ul rushes to Miletus, summons the Ephesian Zekenim, and delivers a moving farewell address, charging them to shepherd the kehillah against ravenous wolves (ze'avim), citing an unrecorded saying of Yeshua: "It is more Ashrei (blessed) to give than to receive." Chapters 21 through 26 chronicle Sha'ul's final arrest and legal defense cycle. Despite the prophet Agavus binding his own hands with Sha'ul's girdle as a dramatic Ruach-inspired sign-act warning of arrest, Sha'ul declares his readiness to die in Jerusalem for the Name of Yeshua. Arriving in Jerusalem, Sha'ul meets with Ya'akov and the elders, who praise the tens of thousands of Torah-zealous Jewish believers (qanna'im for the Torah) in the city. To dispel false rumors that he teaches Jews to forsake Moshe, Sha'ul sponsors four men under a Nazirite vow and enters the Temple courts to complete purification rites. Asian Jews falsely accuse him of bringing a Greek into the Heychal, triggering a massive riot. Roman soldiers rescue him from a beating, and Sha'ul stands on the stairs to deliver his defense entirely in the Ivrit (Hebrew) language, silencing the crowd as he recounts his conversion and his specific mandate to the goyim. Sha'ul avoids scourging by asserting his birthright Roman citizenship. Brought before the Sanhedrin in Chapter 23, Sha'ul highlights the theological division between the Pharisees (Perushim) and Sadducees, declaring: "I am a Perushi, a son of Perushim: concerning the Tikvah and tkhiyat hameitim I am called in question." After Yahuah appears to Sha'ul by night, promising he will bear witness in Rome, Sha'ul's nephew exposes a conspiracy of forty men who bound themselves under a severe curse (cherem) to starve until they murdered him. Roman authorities escort Sha'ul under heavy guard to Caesarea. In Chapters 24 and 25, Sha'ul undergoes prolonged legal custody, defending the faith before Governor Felix—reasoning of righteousness, self-restraint, and the coming judgment—and Governor Festus, where he exercises his formal Roman right: "I appeal to Caesar!" In Chapter 26, Sha'ul delivers his ultimate defense before King Agrippa II (the last of the Herodian line), outlining his compliance with scriptural prophecy and prompting the famous royal response: "Almost you persuade me to be a Messianic!" Chapters 27 through 29 chronicle the final transit to the ends of the earth. In Chapter 27, Sha'ul is sailed toward Rome as a prisoner. Past the autumn fast of Yom Kippur (Tzom), winter navigation turns lethal, and their ship is caught in a ferocious storm (Euroclydon). An angel appears to Sha'ul, declaring the classic reassurance: "Al tira (Fear not), Sha'ul!" Sha'ul executes a todah blessing over bread before the two hundred and seventy-six souls on board, and all escape safely to land as the ship is completely wrecked at Malta. In Chapter 28, Sha'ul survives a venomous viper (nachash) bite unharmed, heals the father of Publius, and safely arrives in Rome, met on the Via Appia by the local kehillah. He immediately summons the local Jewish leaders, expounding the malkhut Elohim from the Torah and the Prophets all day long, anchoring his chains to the true Tikvah of Yisrael. When some reject the message, he delivers the definitive warning of Isaiah 6:9–10, announcing that the salvation of Elohim is sent unto the goyim. The canonical text ends with Sha'ul dwelling two whole years in his own hired house, preaching unhindered. Chapter 29 records the historic completion of Sha'ul's geographic mandate. Departing Rome, he travels to Spain and sails to Britain, entering the Roman port of Raphinus (Sandwich, Kent) to seek out the lost sheep of the House of Yisrael who had escaped captured lands centuries prior. Standing upon Mount Lud (the modern site of St. Paul's Cathedral in London), he proclaims the Davar to massive crowds, receives a delegation of Druids who demonstrate ancestral lineage trace back to the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt, and issues a final, sweeping prophecy regarding the end of days. Sha'ul travels through Gaul into Helvetia (Switzerland) to the mountain of Pontius Pilate, witnessing the cataclysmic earthquake and spring that gushed out where the disgraced governor committed suicide—confirmed by a heavenly voice declaring that even Pilate escaped the ultimate wrath by washing his hands at the shedding of the Messiah's dam. Sha'ul stands between the two monument pillars of Augustus at the Mount of Julius, declaring an enduring standard: these stones stand as a permanent witness that the derekh (way/path) shall not be hindered throughout all generations, sealing the historical journey of the early church in absolute shalom.
An Enduring Standard for the Remnant
Within the comprehensive architecture of The Ivri Heritage Bible, the scroll of Ma'asei HaShlichim operates as an unshakeable operational manual and a blueprint for dynamic, cross- cultural covenantal execution. It demonstrates that the kehillah is structurally engineered to thrive under conditions of intense state persecution, internal administrative complexity, and geographic displacement, driven entirely by the uncompromised power of the Ruach HaKodesh. As you read these twenty-nine restored chapters of "MA'ASEI HASHLICHIM (The Acts of the Apostles)", let the sound of the Shavuot fire burn away all theological complacency, let the boldness of Keifa and Sha'ul realign your worldview, and anchor your soul in the unhindered advancement of the Kingdom of Elohim, knowing that you are the direct continuation of this unbroken historical lineage called to carry the light of the Messiah to the absolute ends of the earth.
Chapter 1 The Former Iggeret to Theophilos -- All Yeshua Did and Taught; After the Passion Yeshua Appears Forty Days; Wait in Yerushalayim for the Promise of HaAv; Ascension from Har HaZeitim; Aliyah (Upper Room); Keifa Addresses the Talmidim -- Replacing Yehudah; Mattityah Chosen
1
The former treatise have I made, O Theophilos, of all that Yeshua began both to do and teach,
2
Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh had given commandments unto the shlichim, whom he had chosen:
3
To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the malkhut of Elohim:
4
And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Yerushalayim, but wait for the promise of HaAv, which, says he, you have heard of me.
5
For Yochanan truly immersed with mayim (water), but you shall be immersed with the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh not many days hence.
6
When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Yahuah, will you at this time restore again the malkhut to Yisrael?
7
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which HaAv has put in his own power.
8
But you shall receive power after that the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh is come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me, both in Yerushalayim, and in all Yehudah, and in Shomron (Samaria), and unto the uttermost part of the aretz.
9
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10
And while they looked steadfastly toward Shamayim as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
11
Which also said, You men of Galil (Galilee), why stand you gazing up into Shamayim? This same Yeshua, which is taken up from you into Shamayim, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into Shamayim.
12
Then returned they unto Yerushalayim from the mount called Har HaZeitim (Mount of Olives), which is from Yerushalayim a Shabbat day's journey.
13
And when they were come in, they went up into an aliyah (upper chamber), where abode both Keifa and Ya'akov, and Yochanan, and Andrai, Filippos, and Toma, Bar-Talmai, and Mattityahu, Ya'akov the son of Chalfai, and Shim'on HaKanna'i, and Yehudah the brother of Ya'akov.
14
These all continued with one accord in tefillah (prayer) and supplication, with the women, and Miryam (Mary/Miriam) the mother of Yeshua, and with his achim (brothers).
15
And in those days Keifa stood up in the midst of the talmidim (disciples), and said, (the number of names together were about a hundred and twenty):
16
Men and achim (brothers), this Scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Yehudah, which was guide to them that took Yeshua.
17
For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
18
Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19
And it was known unto all the dwellers at Yerushalayim, insomuch as that field is called in their proper leshonot (languages/tongues), Akeldama, that is to say, The field of dam (blood).
20
For it is written in the book of Tehillim (Psalms), Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his office let another take. [LXX Ps.68:25; Ps.108:8; MT. Ps 69:25; Ps. 109:8]
21
Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that Master Yeshua went in and out among us,
22
Beginning from the tevilah (Baptism) of Yochanan, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection from death).
23
And they appointed two, Yosef called Barsabba, who was surnamed Justus, and Mattityah.
24
And they prayed, and said, You Yahuah, who knows the levot (hearts) of all men, show which of these two you have chosen,
25
That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship (shlichut (שְׁלִיחוּת), from which Yehudah by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
26
And they gave forth their lots, and the lot fell upon Mattityah, and he was numbered with the eleven shlichim.
Chapter 2 Shavuot (Pentecost) -- The Ruach HaKodesh Falls; Leshonot (Tongues) of Fire; LXX Yoel 2:28-32 Fulfilled; Keifa's Great Derashah: Yeshua HaMashiach Crucified and Risen; Tkhiyat HaMeitim -- 3,000 Souls Added; The Kehillah in Yerushalayim
1
And when the day of Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) (Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost -- cf. Lev.23:15-21) -- the Feast of Weeks, cf. Lev.23:15-21!) was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2
And suddenly there came a sound from Shamayim as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3
And there appeared unto them cloven leshonot (tongues) like as of esh (fire), and it sat upon each of them.
4
And they were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit), and began to speak with other leshonot, as the Ruach (Spirit) gave them utterance.
5
And there were dwelling at YerushalayimYahudim, devout men, out of every nation under Shamayim.
6
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because every man heard them speak in his own language.
7
And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak men of Galil (Galilee)?
8
And how hear we every man in our own lashon, wherein we were born?
9
Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Yehudah, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10
Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Mitzrayim, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Roma, Yahudim and proselytes,
11
Cretans, and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our leshonot the nifle'ot (wonderful works) of Elohim.
12
And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, What does this mean?
13
Others mocking said, These men are full of new yayin (wine).
14
But Keifa, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, You men of Yehudah, and all you that dwell at Yerushalayim, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15
For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16
But this is that which was spoken by the navi Yoel:
17
And it shall come to pass in the last days, says Elohim, I will pour out of My Ruach (Spirit) upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: [LXX Yoel 2:28 -- "eshpokh et-Ruchi al kol basar" -- the great Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) prophecy FULFILLED!]
18
And on my evedim (servants) and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of My Ruach (Spirit), and they shall prophesy: [Yoel 2:29]
19
And I will show moftim (wonders) in Shamayim above, and otot (signs) in the aretz beneath: dam, and esh, and vapour of smoke. [Yoel 2:30]
20
The shemesh shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into dam (blood), before that great and notable Yom Yahuah come. [Yoel 2:31 -- "Yom Yahuah HaGadol v'HaNora"]
21
And it shall come to pass, that whoever shall call on the Shem (Name) of Yahuah shall be saved. [Yoel 2:32 -- "kol asher yikra b'Shem (Name) Yahuah yimmalet (will be delivered/saved)" -- the great promise!]
22
You men of Yisrael, hear these words: Yeshua HaNatzri, a man approved of Elohim among you by miracles, wonders, and otot (signs), which Elohim did by him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know:
23
Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of Elohim, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24
Whom Elohim has raised up, having loosed the chevlei ha'mavet (birth pangs of death): because it was not possible that he should be held by it.
25
For David speaks concerning him: I foresaw Yahuah always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. [LXX Ps.15:8, MT Ps. 16:8 -- "shiviti Yahuah l'negdi tamid"]
26
Therefore my lev (heart) rejoiced, and my lashon was glad: moreover also my flesh shall rest in Tikvah (hope),
27
Because You will not leave my nefesh (soul) in She'ol, neither will You allow Your Kadosh One to see corruption. [LXX Ps.15:10 -- "lo ta'azov nafshi liShe'ol" -- She'ol, not "hell"! The Hebraic underworld]
28
You have made known to me the ways of life; You shall make me full of joy with Your presence. [Ps.15:11]
29
Men and achim (brothers), let me freely speak unto you of the Patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day:
30
Therefore being a navi, and knowing that Elohim had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, He would raise up HaMashiach (Messiah), to sit on his kise (throne):
31
He seeing this before, spoke of the tkhiyat (resurrection) of HaMashiach (Messiah), that his nefesh was not left in She'ol, neither did his flesh see corruption.
32
This Yeshua has Elohim raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33
Therefore being by the right hand of Elohim exalted, and having received of HaAv (the Father) the promise of the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh, he has shed forth this, which you now see and hear.
34
For David is not ascended into Shamayim, but he says himself, Yahuah said unto my Adonai (Lord), Sit at my right hand,
35
Until I make Your enemies Your footstool. [LXX Ps.109:1 -- "Ne'um Yahuah la'adoni, shev liymini" -- is the ultimate foundation for Messianic authority, translating to: "The declaration of Yahuah to my Lord: 'Sit at My right hand.'"the supreme Messianic (followers of the Messias) Tehillim (Psalms -- the Book of Praises)!]
36
Therefore let all Beit Yisrael know assuredly, that Elohim has made that same Yeshua, whom you have crucified, both Yahuah and HaMashiach (Messiah).
37
Now when they heard this, they were pierced in their lev, and said unto Keifa and to the rest of the shlichim (Apostles), Men and achim (brothers), what shall we do?
38
Then Keifa said unto them, Do teshuvah, and be immersed every one of you in the Shem (Name) of Yeshua HaMashiach, for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh.
39
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as Yahuah our Elohim shall call.
40
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this perverse generation.
41
Then they that gladly received his Davar were immersed: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand nefashot (souls).
42
And they continued steadfastly in the shlichim's teaching and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in tefillot (prayers)
43
And fear came upon every nefesh: and many moftim (wonders) and otot (signs) were done by the shlichim.
44
And all that believed were together, and had all things common,
45
And sold their possessions and goods, and divided them to all men, as every man had need.
46
And they continuing daily with one accord in the Heychal, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their food with gladness and singleness of lev (heart),
47
Praising Elohim, and having chen (grace) with all the am (people). And Yahuah added to the kehillah (Assembly/Congregation) daily such as should be saved.
Chapter 3 The Lame Man at Sha'ar HaNikra Healed in Shem Yeshua; Keifa in Ulam Shlomo -- Moshe Prophesied of HaMashiach (Deut.18:15!)
1
Now Keifa and Yochanan went up together into the Heychal at the sha'at hatefillah (The Time of Prayer), being the ninth hour. [The 9th hour = 3pm, the minchah tefillah (prayer) time, one of the three daily sha'ot hatefillah corresponding to the Heychal (Temple) service]
2
And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the Heychal which is called HaSha'ar HaYafeh (the Beautiful Gate), to ask alms of them that entered into the Heychal.
3
Who seeing Keifa and Yochanan about to go into the Heychal, asked an alms.
4
And Keifa fastening his eyes upon him, with Yochanan, said, Look on us.
5
And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
6
Then Keifa said, Kesef (silver) and zahav (gold) have I none, but such as I have, give I you: In the Shem (Name) of Yeshua HaMashiach HaNatzri, rise up and walk.
7
And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
8
And he leaping up, stood and walked, and entered with them into the Heychal, walking and leaping and praising Elohim.
9
And all the am (people) saw him walking and praising Elohim.
10
And they recognized that it was he which sat for alms at HaSha'ar HaYafeh (the Beautiful Gate) of the Heychal: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
11
And as the lame man which was healed held Keifa and Yochanan, all the am (people) ran together unto them in the porch that is called Ulam Shlomo (Solomon's Porch), greatly marvelling.
12
And when Keifa saw it, he answered unto the am, You men of Yisrael, why marvel you at this? Or why look you so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or kedushah (holiness) we had made this man to walk?
13
The Elohim of Avraham, and of Yitzchak, and of Ya'akov, the Elohim of our fathers, has glorified His Ben (Son) Yeshua, whom you delivered up and denied before the face of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. [Exod.3:6,15 -- "Elohei Avraham, Elohei Yitzchak, v'Elohei Ya'akov" -- the covenant Shem (Name) at the burning bush!]
14
But you denied HaKadosh (Holy One) and HaTzaddik (the just), and desired a murderer to be granted unto you,
15
And killed the Sar HaChayyim (Prince of Life), whom Elohim has raised from the dead, whereof we are witnesses.
16
And His Shem (Name), through emunah (faith) in His Shem (Name), has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yes, the emunah (faith) which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
17
And now achim (brothers), I know that through ignorance you did it, as did also your rulers.
18
But those things which Elohim before had shown by the mouth of all His neviim, that HaMashiach (Messiah) should suffer, He has so fulfilled.
19
Do teshuvah (repentance) therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, when the itot hateshuvah (times of refreshing) shall come from the presence of Yahuah.
20
And He shall send Yeshua HaMashiach, who before was preached unto you:
21
Whom Shamayim must receive until the times of tikkun kol hadavarim (restoration of all things), which Elohim has spoken by the mouth of all His kadosh neviim (Holy Prophets) since the world began. [Tikkun -- the great restoration, Tikkun Olam, spoken by all the neviim!]
22
For Moshe truly said unto the fathers, A Navi shall Yahuah your Elohim raise up unto you from your achim (brothers), like unto me; him shall you hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. [Deut.18:15-19 -- the great Mosaic prophecy of HaMashiach (Messiah)! "Navi yakum lekha Yahuah Elohekha mikirbkha mei'achekha kamoni, eilav tishma'un"]
23
And it shall come to pass that every nefesh which will not hear that Navi shall be destroyed from among the am (People). [Deut.18:19]
24
Yes, and all the neviim from Shmu'el, and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
25
You are the bnei haneviim (children of the Prophets), and of the Beriyt (covenant) which Elohim made with our fathers, saying unto Avraham, And in your seed shall all the families of the (earth) be blessed. [Gen.22:18 -- "u'vzerakh kol mishpachot ha'aretz yitbarakh" -- the Abrahamic Beriyt!]
26
Unto you first, Elohim having raised up His Ben Yeshua, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
Chapter 4 Keifa and Yochanan Before the Sanhedrin; Yeshua HaEven She'ma'asu HaBonim (Ps.118:22!); The Kehillah Prays; All Things in Common
1
And as they spoke unto the am (people), the Kohanim and the sar haMiqdash (captain of the Heychal (Temple)) and the Tzaddukim came upon them,
2
Being grieved that they taught the am and preached through Yeshua the tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection from the dead).
3
And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening.
4
Howbeit, many of them which heard the Davar (Word) believed, and the number of the men was about five thousand.
5
And it came to pass on the morrow that their rulers, and Zekenim (Elders), and Sofrim (scribes),
6
And Chanan the Kohen HaGadol, and Kayafa, and Yochanan, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the Kohen HaGadol, were gathered together at Yerushalayim.
7
And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what Shem (Name), have you done this?
8
Then Keifa, filled with the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit), said unto them, You rulers of the am (people), and Zekenim (elders) of Yisrael:
9
If we this day be examined concerning the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole,
10
Be it known unto you all, and to all the am (people) of Yisrael, that by the Shem (Name) of Yeshua HaMashiach HaNatzri, whom you crucified, whom Elohim raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you, whole.
11
This is the even (stone) which was set at nought by you builders, which has become the rosh pinnah (head of the corner). [LXX Ps.117:22 -- "ha'even she'ma'asu haBonim haytah l'rosh pinnah" -- already established from Iggeret Keifa Aleph (Epistle 1 Peter) 2:7!]
12
Neither is there yeshuah (salvation) in any other: for there is no other Shem (Name) under Shamayim given among men by which we must be saved.
13
Now when they saw the boldness of Keifa and Yochanan, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled, and they took note that they had been with Yeshua.
14
And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15
But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), they conferred among themselves,
16
Saying, What shall we do to these men? For that indeed a notable nes (miracle) has been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Yerushalayim, and we cannot deny it.
17
But that it spread no further among the am (people), let us strictly warn them that they speak henceforth to no man in this Shem (Name).
18
And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the Shem (Name) of Yeshua.
19
But Keifa and Yochanan answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of Elohim to hearken unto you more than unto Elohim, you judge.
20
For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21
So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the am (people): for all men glorified Elohim for that which was done.
22
For the man was above forty years old on whom this nes (miracle) of healing was shown.
23
And being let go, they went to their own company and reported all that the chief Kohanim and Zekenim had said unto them.
24
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to Elohim with one accord, and said, Yahuah, You are Elohim who has made Shamayim (heaven) and aretz (earth), and the yam (sea), and all that in them is,
25
Who by the mouth of Your eved (servant) David has said, Why did the goyim (nations/Gentiles) rage, and the am (people) imagine vain things? [LXX Ps.2:1 -- "Lamah rageshu goyim (nations/Gentiles) u'le'ummim yehgu rik" -- the great royal and Messianic (followers of the Messiah in Hebrew/Messias in Latinized Greek) Tehillim!]
26
The kings of the aretz stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against Yahuah, and against His Mashiach. [Ps.2:2 -- "al Yahuah v'al Meshicho" -- His ANOINTED ONE = HaMashiach (Messiah)!]
27
For of a truth against Your kadosh (Holy) eved (servant) Yeshua, whom You have anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the goyim (nations/Gentiles) and the am (people) ofYisrael were gathered together,
28
To do whatsoever Your hand and Your counsel determined before to be done.
29
And now, Yahuah, behold their threatenings, and grant unto Your evedim (servants) that with all boldness they may speak Your Davar (word),
30
By stretching forth Your hand to heal, and that otot u'moftim (signs and worders) may be done by the Shem (Name) of Your kadosh (Holy eved (servant) Yeshua.
31
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit), and they spoke the Davar (Word) of Elohim with boldness.
32
And the multitude of them that believed were of one lev (heart) and one nefesh (soul): neither said any of them that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things common. [lev echad v'nefesh achat -- echoing the Shema!]
33
And with great power the shlichim gave witness of the tkhiyat( resurrection) of Master Yeshua, and great chen (grace) was upon them all.
34
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35
And laid them down at the shlichim's feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
36
And Yosef, who by the shlichim was surnamed Bar-Nava (which is, being interpreted, Ben Nechama -- Son of Consolation/Encouragement), a Levi and of the country of Cyprus,
37
Having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the shlichim's feet.
Chapter 5 Chananyah and Shafira -- They Lied to the Ruach HaKodesh; Many Signs and Wonders; The Shlichim Before the Sanhedrin Again; Gamli'el's Counsel -- If It Is of Elohim You Cannot Overthrow It
1
But a certain man named Chananyah (Ananias), with Shafira (Sapphira) his wife, sold a possession,
2
And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the shlichim's feet.
3
But Keifa said, Chananyah, why has HaSatan filled your lev to lie to the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4
While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your lev? You have not lied unto men, but unto Elohim.
5
And Chananyah hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6
And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out and buried him.
7
And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8
And Keifa answered unto her, Tell me whether you sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much.
9
Then Keifa said unto her, How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Ruach (Spirit) of Yahuah? Behold, the feet of them which have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out.
10
Then she fell down immediately at his feet and gave up the ghost: and the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11
And great fear came upon all the kehillah (Assembly), and upon as many as heard these things.
12
And by the hands of the shlichim were many otot u'moftim wrought among the am. And they were all with one accord in Ulam Shlomo (Solomons Porch).
13
And of the rest no man dared join himself to them: but the am magnified them.
14
And believers were the more added to Yahuah, multitudes both of men and women.
15
Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the tzel (shadow) of Keifa passing by might overshadow some of them.
16
There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Yerushalayim, bringing sick folk, and them which were vexed with unclean ruchot (spirit): and they were healed every one.
17
Then the Kohen HaGadol (high priest) rose up, and all they that were with him, which is the sect of the Tzaddukim (Sadduces), and were filled with indignation,
18
And laid their hands on the shlichim and put them in the common prison.
19
But the malach (angel) of Yahuah by night opened the prison doors and brought them forth, and said,
20
Go, stand and speak in the Hecyhal to the am (people) all the words of this life.
21
And when they heard that, they entered into the Heychal early in the morning and taught. But the Kohen HaGadol came, and they that were with him, and called the Sanhedrin (the ruling council) together, and all the Senate of the B'nei (children) Yisrael, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22
But when the officers came and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,
23
Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors, but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24
Now when the Kohen HaGadol and the sar haMiqdash (captain of the Temple) and the chief Kohanim heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25
Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the Heychal and teaching the am (people).
26
Then went the captain with the officers and brought them without violence, for they feared the am (people), lest they should have been stoned.
27
And when they had brought them, they set them before the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), and the Kohen HaGadol asked them,
28
Saying, Did we not strictly command you that you should not teach in this Shem (Name)? And behold, you have filled Yerushalayim with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's dam (blood) upon us.
29
Then Keifa and the other shlichim (apostles) answered and said, We ought to obey Elohim rather than men.
30
The Elohim of our fathers raised up Yeshua, whom you slew and hung on HaEtz (the Tree/cross). [Deut.21:23 -- "cursed is he who hangs on a tree/etz" -- now reversed: the curse became the blessing!]
31
Him has Elohim exalted with His right hand to be Nasi v'Moshia (Saviour/Deliverer) (a Prince and a Moshia (Saviour)), to give teshuvah to Yisrael, and forgiveness of sins.
32
And we are His witnesses of these things, and so is also the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh, whom Elohim has given to them that obey Him.
33
When they heard that, they were cut to the lev (hearts), and took counsel to slay them.
34
Then stood there up one in the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), a Perushi named Gamli'el, a moreh Torah (teacher of the Torah (law)) held in reputation among all the am (people), and commanded to put the shlichim outside a little space: [Gamli'el HaZaken -- grandson of Hillel, Nasi of the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), and the teacher of Sha'ul of Tarsus (Acts 22:3)!]
35
And said unto them, You men of Yisrael, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do as touching these men.
36
For before these days rose up Teudas, boasting himself to be someone, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered and brought to nothing.
37
After this man rose up Yehudah HaGalili in the days of the census, and drew away much people after him: he also perished, and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
38
And now I say unto you, refrain from these men and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nothing.
39
But if it be of Elohim, you cannot overthrow it, lest perhaps you be found even to fight against Elohim.
40
And to him they agreed: and when they had called the shlichim, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the Shem (Name) of Yeshua, and let them go.
41
And they departed from the presence of the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His Shem (Name).
42
And daily in the Heychal and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Yeshua HaMashiach.
Chapter 6 Seven Men Chosen to Serve Tables; Stefanos Full of Chen and Gevurah; Stefanos Seized -- False Witnesses Against Him
1
And in those days when the number of the talmidim (disciples) was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Yevanim (Greek-speaking Yahudim) against the Ivrim (Hebrew-speaking), because their almanot (widows) were neglected in the daily sherut (service).
2
Then the shnem-asar (twelve) called the multitude of the talmidim (disciples) unto them, and said, It is not fitting that we should leave the Davar (word) of Elohim and serve tables.
3
Wherefore achim, look out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) and chokhmah (wisdom), whom we may appoint over this business.
4
But we will give ourselves continually to tefillah and to the ministry of the Davar.
5
And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stefanos, a man full of emunah (faith) and of the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh, and Filippos, and Prokhoros, and Niqanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Niqolaos a ger (proselyte) of Antiokh.
6
Whom they set before the shlichim: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them -- smikhah (the laying on of hands -- ordination).
7
And the Davar Elohim increased, and the number of talmidim (disciples) multiplied in Yerushalayim greatly, and a great company of the Kohanim were obedient to the emunah (faith).
8
And Stefanos, full of emunah (faith) and power, did great moftim and otot among the am.
9
Then there arose certain of the beit knesset (house of assembly) which is called the beit knesset (house of assembly) of the Azatim (Libertines/Freed Men), and of those of Cyrene, and of Alexandria, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stefanos.
10
And they were not able to resist the chokhmah and the Ruach (Spirit) by which he spoke.
11
Then they secretly induced men who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moshe and against Elohim.
12
And they stirred up the am, and the Zekenim, and the Sofrim, and came upon him and caught him and brought him to the Sanhedrin (the ruling council),
13
And set up false witnesses which said, This man ceases not to speak blasphemous words against this kadosh place and the Torah.
14
For we have heard him say that this Yeshua HaNatzri shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moshe delivered us.
15
And all that sat in the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of a malach. [cf. Moshe's face shining when he came down from Har Sinai -- Exod.34:29-35! Stefanos' face now shines before the Sanhedrin (the ruling council) as Moshe's face shone before Yisrael!]
Chapter 7 Stefanos' Great Derashah -- From Avraham Through Moshe to Yeshua; The Building of the Mishkan and the Heichal; The Stiff-Necked People Who Resisted the Ruach; Stefanos Sees the Ben Adam Standing at the Right Hand -- He Is Stoned
1
Then said the Kohen HaGadol, Are these things so?
2
And he said, Men, achim (brothers), and fathers, hear: The Elohei HaKavod (Elohim (God) of kavod (glory) -- Ps.29:3!) appeared unto our father Avraham, when he was in Aram-Naharayim (Mesopotamia), before he dwelt in Charan,
3
And said unto him, Get out of your country and from your kindred, and come into the land which I shall show you. [Gen.12:1 -- "Lekh lekha mei'artzekha u'mimoladtekha" -- the great call to Avraham!]
4
Then came he out of the land of the Kasdim (Chaldeans), and dwelt in Charan: and from there, when his father was dead, He removed him into this land wherein you now dwell.
5
And He gave him no inheritance in it, not so much as to set his foot on: yet He promised that He would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.
6
And Elohim spoke on this wise, that his seed should sojourn in a strange land, and that they should bring them into bondage, and treat them evil four hundred years. [Gen.15:13 -- the Beriyt between the pieces!]
7
And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said Elohim: and after that shall they come forth and serve Me in this place. [Gen.15:14]
8
And He gave him the Beriyt HaMilah (Covenant of Circumcision): and so Avraham begat Yitzchak and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Yitzchak begat Ya'akov, and Ya'akov begat the shnem-asar Avot (twelve Patriarchs).
9
And the Avot(fathers), moved with envy, sold Yosef into Mitzrayim: but Elohim was with him,
10
And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him chen (favor) and chokhmah (wisdom) in the sight of Par'oh king of Mitzrayim, and he made him governor over Mitzrayim and all his house.
11
Now there came a famine over all the land of Mitzrayim and Kena'an, and great affliction, and our fathers found no sustenance.
12
But when Ya'akov heard that there was grain in Mitzrayim, he sent out our fathers first.
13
And at the second time Yosef was made known to his achim (brothers), and Yosef's kindred was made known unto Par'oh.
14
Then sent Yosef and called his father Ya'akov to him, and all his kindred, seventy-five (75) nefashot (souls —LXX Exodus 1:5).
15
So Ya'akov went down into Mitzrayim, and died, he and our fathers,
16
And were carried over into Shekhem, and laid in the tomb that Avraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Chamor the father of Shekhem.
17
But when the time of the promise drew near, which Elohim had sworn to Avraham, the am grew and multiplied in Mitzrayim,
18
Till another king arose who knew not Yosef.
19
The same dealt craftily with our kindred and mistreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.
20
In which time Moshe was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:
21
And when he was cast out, Par'oh's daughter took him up and nourished him for her own son.
22
And Moshe was learned in all the chokhmah (wisdom) of the Mitzrim, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
23
And when he was full forty years old, it came into his lev to visit his achim (brothers) the B'nei Yisrael.
24
And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and struck down the Mitzri.
25
For he supposed his achim (brothers) would have understood how that Elohim by his hand would deliver them, but they understood not.
26
And the next day he showed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Men, you are achim -- why do you wrong one to another?
27
But he that did his neighbor wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
28
Will you kill me as you killed the Mitzri yesterday?
29
Then fled Moshe at this saying, and was a ger (stranger) in the land of Midyan, where he begat two sons.
30
And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of Har Sinai, a malach of Yahuah in a lahav esh (flame of esh (fire)) in a sneh (bush). [Exod.3:2 -- the burning sneh! Yahuah's first great self-revelation to Moshe!]
31
When Moshe saw it, he marvelled at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of Yahuah came unto him,
32
Saying, I am the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Avraham, and the Elohim of Yitzchak, and the Elohim of Ya'akov. Then Moshe trembled and dared not look. [Exod.3:6 -- the covenant Shem (Name) at the burning sneh!]
33
Then said Yahuah to him, Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is admat kodesh (kadosh (holy) ground). [Exod.3:5]
34
I have seen, I have seen the affliction of My am which is in Mitzrayim, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them: And now come, I will send you into Mitzrayim. [Exod.3:7 -- "Ra'oh ra'iti et oni ami" -- the great doubled verb of divine attention!]
35
This Moshe whom they refused, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? -- the same did Elohim send to be a ruler and a deliverer, by the hand of the malach which appeared to him in the sneh.
36
He brought them out, after that he had shown moftim and otot in the land of Mitzrayim, and in the Yam Suf (Red Sea), and in the midbar (wilderness) forty years.
37
This is that Moshe which said unto the B'nei (children) of Yisrael, A Navi shall Yahuah your Elohim raise up unto you from your achim (brothers), like unto me: him shall you hear. [Deut.18:15 -- already cited in Acts 3:22! Stefanos now confirms: Yeshua IS that Navi!]
38
This is he that was in the kehillah (Assembly) in the midbar with the malach which spoke to him in Har Sinai, and with our fathers: who received the lively imrei chayyim (living oracles/words), to give unto us. [The "kehillah b'midbar" -- the assembly at Sinai WAS the ekklesia -- the kehillah is not new!]
39
To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their levot turned back again into Mitzrayim,
40
Saying unto Aharon, Make us elohim (gods) to go before us. For as for this Moshe, which brought us out of the land of Mitzrayim, we know not what has become of him. [Exod.32:1 -- the Golden Calf! The great sin of the midbar!]
41
And they made an egel (calf) in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42
Then Elohim turned, and gave them up to worship the host of Shamayim, as it is written in the sefer haneviim (Book of the Prophets), O house of Yisrael, have you offered to Me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the midbar? [LXX Amos 5:25 -- Stefanos quotes Amos!]
43
Yes, you took up the sukkah of Molokh, and the star of your elohim Remphan, figures which you made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Bavel. [LXX Amos 5:26-27]
44
Our fathers had the Mishkan haEdut (Tabernacle of Testimony) in the midbar, as He had appointed, speaking unto Moshe that he should make it according to the tavnit (pattern/blueprint) that he had seen. [Exod.25:9,40 -- the heavenly tavnit! Already established in Hebrews 8:5!]
45
Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Yehoshua (Joshua ben Nun -- not Yeshua here!) into the possession of the goyim (nations/Gentiles), whom Elohim drove out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David:
46
Who found chen (favor) before Elohim, and desired to find a Mishkan for the Elohei Ya'akov.
47
But Shlomo built Him a house.
48
Howbeit Elyon (the Most High) does not dwell in temples made with hands, as says the navi: [Isa.66:1-2!]
49
Shamayim is My kise (throne), and aretz is My footstool: What house will you build Me? says Yahuah. Or what is the place of My menucha (rest)? [Isa.66:1 -- "haShamayim kisi v'ha'aretz hadom raglai"]
50
Has not My hand made all these things? [Isa.66:2]
51
You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in lev and ears, you do always resist the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh: as your fathers did, so do you. [Deut.10:16 -- "u'maltem et orlat levavchem" -- circumcise your levot (hearts)! And Jer.4:4, 6:10!]
52
Which of the neviim have your fathers not persecuted? And they have slain them which showed before of the coming of HaTzaddik (the Righteous One -- the Messianin (followers of the Messias) title!), of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers:
53
Who have received the Torah by the disposition of malachim, and have not kept it.
54
When they heard these things, they were cut to the lev, and gnashed on him with their teeth.
55
But he, being full of the Ruach HaKodesh, looked up steadfastly into Shamayim, and saw the kavod (glory)Elohim, and Yeshua standing at the right hand of Elohim,
56
And said, Behold, I see the Shamayim opened, and the Ben Adam (Son of Man) standing at the right hand of Elohim! [Dan.7:13 -- the Ben Adam coming in the clouds! And Ps.110:1! Stefanos sees Yeshua STANDING -- not sitting -- as if rising to receive His servant!]
57
Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
58
And cast him out of the city and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their garments at a young man's feet, whose Shem (Name) was Sha'ul. [The first appearance of Sha'ul in Ma'asei HaShlichim!]
59
And they stoned Stefanos, calling upon Elohim, and saying, Master Yeshua, receive my Ruach (Spirit).
60
And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Yahuah, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. [Echoing Yeshua's tefillah on HaEtz (the Tree/cross): "Father, forgive them" -- Luke 23:34! And Moshe's intercession for Yisrael -- Exod.32:32!]
Chapter 8 Great Persecution Scatters the Kehillah; Filippos in Shomron; Shim'on HaMakshef (Simon Magus); Filippos and the Ethiopian Eunuch -- Isa.53:7-8 Fulfilled; Filippos Taken Away by the Ruach
1
And Sha'ul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the kehillah which was at Yerushalayim, and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Yehudah and Shomron (Samaria), except the shlichim.
2
And devout men carried Stefanos to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
3
As for Sha'ul, he made havoc of the kehillah, entering into every house and dragging men and women, committed them to prison.
4
Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere proclaiming the Davar.
5
Then Filippos went down to the city of Shomron (Samaria) and preached HaMashiach (Messiah) unto them.
6
And the am with one accord gave heed unto those things which Filippos spoke, hearing and seeing the otot (signs) which he did.
7
For ruchot teme'ot (unclean spirits), crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies and that were lame were healed.
8
And there was great joy in that city.
9
But there was a certain man called Shim'on HaMakshef (Shim'on (Simon) the Sorcerer), who before time in the same city practiced kishuf (sorcery), and amazed the am of Shomron (Samaria), giving out that himself was some great one. [Lev.19:26 -- "lo t'nacheshu v'lo t'kshafu" -- you shall not practice divination or sorcery!]
10
To whom they all gave heed from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the Ko'ach HaGadol (Great Power) of Elohim.
11
And they had regard for him, because that of long time he had amazed them with his kishuf (sorceries).
12
But when they believed Filippos proclaiming the things concerning the malkhut Elohim and the Shem (Name) of Yeshua HaMashiach, they were immersed, both men and women.
13
Then Shim'on himself also believed: and when he was immersed, he continued with Filippos, and wondered, beholding the otot and moftim which were done.
14
Now when the shlichim which were at Yerushalayim heard that Shomron (Samaria) had received the Davar Elohim, they sent unto them Keifa and Yochanan.
15
Who when they were come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Ruach HaKodesh.
16
For as yet He had fallen upon none of them: they had only been immersed in the Shem (Name) of MasterYeshua.
17
Then laid they their hands on them -- smikhah -- and they received the Ruach HaKodesh.
18
And when Shim'on saw that through the smikhah of the shlichim' hands the Ruach HaKodesh was given, he offered them money,
19
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Ruach HaKodesh.
20
But Keifa said unto him, Your kesef (money) perish with you, because you have thought that the gift of Elohim may be purchased with money. [From this episode comes the word "simony" -- buying spiritual offices with kesef!]
21
You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your lev is not right in the sight of Elohim.
22
Do teshuvah therefore from this your wickedness, and pray to Elohim, if perhaps the thought of your lev may be forgiven you.
23
For I perceive that you are in the rosh mara (gall of bitterness) and in the bond of iniquity. [Deut.29:18 -- "shoresh poreh rosh v'laanah" -- a root producing gall and bitterness!]
24
Then answered Shim'on and said, Pray to Yahuah for me, that none of these things which you have spoken come upon me.
25
And they, when they had testified and proclaimed the Davar of Yahuah, returned to Yerushalayim, and proclaimed the Besorah in many villages of the Shomronim (Samaritans).
26
And the malach of Yahuah spoke unto Filippos, saying, Arise and go toward the south, unto the derekh (way/path) that goes down from Yerushalayim unto Azza, which is desert.
27
And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Kush (Ethiopia), a saris of great authority under Kandake (Candace) queen of the Kushim, who had charge of all her treasure, and had come to Yerushalayim to worship, [Ps.67:31 -- "Kush shall stretch out her hands to Elohim!" -- NOW FULFILLED! And Zeph.3:10 -- "From beyond the rivers of Kush my worshippers shall bring My offering"]
28
Was returning, and sitting in his chariot, read Yesha'yahu HaNavi.
29
Then the Ruach (Spirit) said unto Filippos, Go near and join yourself to this chariot.
30
And Filippos ran to him, and heard him read Yesha'yahu HaNavi, and said, Do you understand what you read?
31
And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Filippos that he would come up and sit with him.
32
The place of the Scripture which he read was this: He was led as a HaSeh (sheep) to the slaughter, and like a silent lamb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: [LXX Isa.53:7 -- "k'seh latevach yuval u'ch'rachel lifnei gozazeiha ne'elemah" -- THE SERVANT SONG! HaSeh = our word throughout Revelation and 1 Keifa (Peter/Cephas -- the Rock)!]
33
In his humiliation his mishpat was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? For his life is taken from the aretz. [LXX Isa.53:8 -- "ki nigzar me'eretz chayyav" -- cf. also Isa.53:4-5,12!]
34
And the saris answered Filippos and said, I pray you, of whom does the navi speak this? Of himself, or of some other man?
35
Then Filippos opened his mouth, and beginning at the same Scripture, proclaimed unto him Yeshua. [Isa.53 -- the Servant Song fulfilled in Yeshua! The saris receives the Besorah from the very words he was reading!]
36
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain mayim: and the saris said, See, here is mayim, what hinders me from being immersed?
37
And Filippos said, If you believe with all your lev, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Yeshua HaMashiach is the Ben Elohim.
38
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the mayim, both Filippos and the saris, and he immersed him.
39
And when they came up out of the mayim, the Ruach (Spirit) of Yahuah caught away Filippos, that the saris saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. [cf. the Ruach (Spirit) catching away Eliyahu (1 Kings 18:12) and Yechezke'l (Ezek.3:14, 8:3)!]
40
But Filippos was found at Ashdod: and passing through, he proclaimed the Besorah in all the cities, till he came to Kisarya.
Chapter 9 Sha'ul of Tarsus on the Derekh to Damascus -- Blinded by the Or; 'Sha'ul, Sha'ul, Why Do You Persecute Me?'; Chananyah Restores Sha'ul's Sight; Sha'ul Preaches in Damascus; Keifa Heals Aeneas and Raises Tavita (Dorcas) from the Dead
1
And Sha'ul, yet breathing out threats and slaughter against the talmidim (disciples) of Yahuah, went unto the Kohen HaGadol,
2
And desired of him letters to Dammesek, to the batei knesset, that if he found any of HaDerekh (the Way of Messiah), whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Yerushalayim.
3
And as he journeyed, he came near Dammesek, and suddenly there shone round about him an or (light) from Shamayim.
4
And he fell to the aretz and heard a voice saying unto him, Sha'ul, Sha'ul, why do you persecute Me? [The doubled Shem (Name)! cf. "Avraham, Avraham" Gen.22:11; "Moshe, Moshe" Exod.3:4; "Shmu'el, Shmu'el" 1 Sam.3:10 -- the divine doubling marks a pivotal call!]
5
And he said, Who are You, Adon? And Adon said, I am Yeshua whom you persecute: it is hard for you to kick against the goads.
6
And he trembling and astonished said, Master, what will You have me to do? And Master said unto him, Arise and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do.
7
And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no man.
8
And Sha'ul arose from the aretz, and when his eyes were opened he saw no man: but they led him by the hand and brought him into Dammesek.
9
And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
10
And there was a certain talmid (disciple) at Dammesek named Chananyah, and to him said Yahuah in a vision, Chananyah. And he said, Hinneni, Yahuah! [The great "Hinneni!" -- Avraham at the Akedah (Gen.22:1), Moshe at the sneh (Exod.3:4), Shmu'el in the night vision (1 Sam.3:4), Yesha'yahu before the kise (Isa.6:8)!]
11
And Yahuah said unto him, Arise and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Yehudah for one called Sha'ul of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying,
12
And has seen in a vision a man named Chananyah coming in and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
13
Then Chananyah answered, Yahuah, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he has done to Your kedoshim (saints) at Yerushalayim:
14
And here he has authority from the chief Kohanim to bind all that call on Your Shem (Name).
15
But Yahuah said unto him, Go your way: for he is a keli nivchar (chosen vessel) unto Me, to bear My Shem (Name) before goyim (nations/Gentiles), and melakhim, and the B'nei Yisrael. [Sha'ul's three-fold mission: goyim (nations/Gentiles) – melakhim (kings) -- B'nei Yisrael!]
16
For I will show him how great things he must suffer for My Shem (Name)'s sake.
17
And Chananyah went his way and entered into the house, and putting his hands on him said, Ach Sha'ul (Brother Sha'ul), Yahuah -- even Yeshua that appeared to you in the derekh (way/path) as you came -- has sent me, that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh.
18
And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales, and he received sight forthwith, and arose and was immersed.
19
And when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then was Sha'ul certain days with the talmidim (disciples) which were at Dammesek.
20
And straightway he proclaimed HaMashiach (Messiah) in the batei Knesset (Synagogues), that He is the Ben Elohim.
21
But all that heard him were amazed and said, Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this Shem (Name) in Yerushalayim, and came here for that intent that he might bring them bound unto the chief Kohanim?
22
But Sha'ul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Yahudim which dwelt at Dammesek, proving that this is indeed HaMashiach (Messiah).
23
And after many days were fulfilled, the Yahudim took counsel to kill him.
24
But their plot was known to Sha'ul: and they watched the gates day and night to kill him.
25
Then the talmidim (disciples) took him by night and let him down by the wall in a sal (basket).
26
And when Sha'ul was come to Yerushalayim, he tried to join himself to the talmidim (disciples), but they were all afraid of him and did not believe that he was a talmid (disciple).
27
But Bar-Nava took him and brought him to the shlichim, and declared unto them how he had seen Yahuah in the derekh (way/path), and that He had spoken to him, and how he had proclaimed boldly at Dammesek in the Shem (Name) of Yeshua.
28
And he was with them coming in and going out at Yerushalayim.
29
And he spoke boldly in the Shem (Name) of Master Yeshua, and disputed against the Yevanim (Greeks): but they went about to slay him.
30
Which when the achim knew, they brought him down to Kisarya and sent him forth to Tarsus.
31
Then the kehillot had rest throughout all Yehudah, and Galil (Galilee), and Shomron (Samaria), and were built up, and walking in the fear of Yahuah and in the comfort of the Ruach HaKodesh, were multiplied.
32
And it came to pass, as Keifa passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the kedoshim which dwelt at Lod.
33
And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.
34
And Keifa said unto him, Aeneas, Yeshua HaMashiach makes you whole: arise and make your bed. And he arose immediately.
35
And all that dwelt at Lod (Lydda) and HaSharon saw him and turned to Yahuah. [HaSharon -- the Plain of Sharon! cf. Song of Songs 2:1 -- "I am the rose of HaSharon"!]
36
Now there was at Yafo a certain talmidah named Tavita (Tabitha), which by interpretation is called Dorcas (gazelle -- tzvi): this woman was full of good ma'asim (works) and acts of tzedakah which she did.
37
And it came to pass in those days that she was sick and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an aliyah (upper chamber).
38
And forasmuch as Lod (Lydda) was near to Yafo, and the talmidim (disciples) had heard that Keifa was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
39
Then Keifa arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the aliyah (upper chamber): and all the almanot (widows) stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Tavita made while she was with them.
40
But Keifa put them all out and kneeled down and prayed, and turning to the body, said, Tavita, kumi ("Arise!","Stand up!") And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Keifa, she sat up. [cf. Yeshua’s "Talitha kumi!" (Mark 5:41) -- strikingly similar! Both Aramaic/Hebrew commands of tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection of the dead)!]
41
And he gave her his hand and lifted her up: and when he had called the kedoshim (saints) and almanot(widows) , presented her alive.
42
And it was known throughout all Yafo, and many believed in Yahuah.
43
And it came to pass that he remained many days in Yafo with one Shim'on HaBursi (Shim'on (Simon) the Tanner). [A tanner was considered ritually impure -- Keifa dwelling with HaBursi anticipates the great vision of Ch.10!]
Chapter 10 Kornelius the Centurion -- An Angel Appears; Keifa's Vision: Lo Tit'ma (Call Nothing Impure); Ruach HaKodesh Falls on the Goyim -- The First Gentile Kehillah
1
There was a certain man in Kisarya called Kornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2
A devout man and one that feared Elohim with all his house, who gave much tzedakah (alms) to the am (people), and prayed to Elohim always.
3
He saw in a vision evidently, about the ninth hour of the day, a malach of Elohim coming in unto him and saying unto him, Kornelius.
4
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Master? And he said unto him, Your tefillot (prayers) and your tzedakah (alms) have come up for a memorial before Elohim.
5
And now send men to Yafo (Joppa) and call for one Shim'on whose surname is Keifa.
6
He lodges with one Shim'on HaBursi, whose house is by the sea; he shall tell you what you must do.
7
And when the malach (angels) which spoke unto Kornelius was departed, he called two of his household evedim (servants), and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually.
8
And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Yafo (Joppa).
9
On the morrow as they went on their journey and drew near unto the city, Keifa went up upon the rooftop to pray, about the sixth hour.
10
And he became very hungry and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11
And saw Shamayim opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners and let down to the aretz:
12
Wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the aretz (earth), and wild beasts, and creeping things, and birds of the air.
13
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Keifa; slaughter and eat.
14
But Keifa said, By no means, Adoni: for I have never eaten anything that is tameh (common or unclean). [Lev.11 and Deut.14 -- the kashrut laws of Moshe!]
15
And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, What Elohim has made tahor (clean), that call not tameh (unclean). [The vision is NOT about food -- it is about the goyim (nations/Gentiles)! Elohim has purified what was once separated!]
16
This was done three times: and the vessel was received up again into Shamayim.
17
Now while Keifa doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Kornelius had made inquiry for Shim'on's house and stood before the gate,
18
And called and asked whether Shim'on who was surnamed Keifa were lodged there.
19
While Keifa thought on the vision, the Ruach (Spirit) said unto him, Behold, three men seek you.
20
Arise therefore, and go down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21
Then Keifa went down to the men which were sent unto him from Kornelius, and said, Behold, I am he whom you seek: what is the cause for which you have come?
22
And they said, Kornelius the centurion, a tzaddik man and one that fears Elohim, and of good report among all the nation of the Yahudim, was warned from Elohim by a kadosh malach to send for you into his house and to hear words from you.
23
Then he called them in and lodged them: and on the morrow Keifa went away with them, and certain achim (brothers) from Yafo accompanied him.
24
And the morrow after they entered into Kisarya (Cesarea): and Kornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25
And as Keifa was coming in, Kornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshipped him.
26
But Keifa took him up, saying, Stand up, I myself am also a man.
27
And as he talked with him, he went in and found many that were come together.
28
And he said unto them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Yahudi to keep company or come unto one of another nation: but Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man tameh (spiritual impure) or unclean.
29
Therefore came I unto you without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask therefore for what intent you have sent for me.
30
And Kornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour, and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31
And said, Kornelius, your tefillah (prayer) is heard and your tzedakah (alms) is had in remembrance in the sight of Elohim.
32
Send therefore to Yafo (Joppa) and call here Shim'on whose surname is Keifa: he is lodged in the house of one Shim'on HaBursi by the sea, who when he comes shall speak unto you.
33
Immediately therefore I sent to you, and you have done well to come. Now therefore are we all here present before Elohim, to hear all things that are commanded you of Elohim.
34
Then Keifa opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that Elohim is no respecter of persons: [This is the theological turning point -- the boundaries between Yahudi and goy (gentile) are broken open!]
35
But in every goy, he that fears Him and works tzedakah (righteousness) is accepted with Him.
36
The Davar which Elohim sent unto the B'nei Yisrael, preaching shalom by Yeshua HaMashiach -- He is Master of all.
37
That Davar, I say, you know, which was published throughout all Yehudah, and began from Galil (Galilee), after the tevilah (baptism) which Yochanan preached:
38
How Elohim anointed Yeshua HaNatzri with the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of HaSatan: for Elohim was with him.
39
And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Yahudim and in Yerushalayim, whom they slew and hung on HaEtz (the Tree/cross). [Deut.21:23 and 1 Pet.2:24 -- hung on HaEtz (the Tree/cross)!]
40
Him Elohim raised up the third day and showed him openly,
41
Not to all the am (people), but unto witnesses chosen before by Elohim, even to us who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42
And he commanded us to proclaim unto the am (people) and to testify that it is he which was ordained of Elohim to be the Shofet (Judge) of the living and the dead.
43
To him give all the neviim witness, that through His Shem (Name) whoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins.
44
While Keifa yet spoke these words, the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh fell on all them which heard the Davar (Word).
45
And they of the milah (circumcision) who believed were astonished, as many as came with Keifa, because that on the goyim (nations/Gentiles) also was poured out the gift of the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh.
46
For they heard them speak with leshonot (tongues) and magnify Elohim. Then answered Keifa,
47
Can any man forbid mayim (water), that these should not be immersed, which have received the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) as well as we?
48
And he commanded them to be immersed in the Shem (Name) of the Master Yeshua. Then prayed they him to remain certain days.
Chapter 11 Keifa Reports to Yerushalayim -- The Goyim Have Also Received Teshuvah; The Kehillah at Antioch -- The Talmidim First Called Messianic (Notzrim)
1
And the shlichim (apostle) and achim (brothers) that were in Yehudah heard that the goyim (nations/Gentiles) had also received the Davar (Word) of Elohim.
2
And when Keifa was come up to Yerushalayim, they that were of the milah (circumcision) contended with him,
3
Saying, You went in to men uncircumcised and did eat with them.
4
But Keifa rehearsed the matter from the beginning and expounded it in order unto them, saying,
5
I was in the city of Yafo praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet let down from Shamayim by four corners, and it came even to me.
6
Upon which when I had fastened my eyes, I considered and saw four-footed beasts of the aretz, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and birds of the air.
7
And I heard a voice saying unto me, Rise, Keifa: slaughter and eat.
8
But I said, By no means, Adoni: for nothing tameh (unclean) has at any time entered into my mouth.
9
But the voice answered me again from Shamayim, What Elohim has made tahor (clean), that call not tameh.
10
And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into Shamayim.
11
And behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Kisarya unto me.
12
And the Ruach (Spirit) told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover these six achim accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:
13
And he showed us how he had seen a malach in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Yafo and call for Shim'on whose surname is Keifa:
14
Who shall tell you words, by which you and all your house shall be saved.
15
And as I began to speak, the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) fell on them, as on us at the beginning. [The Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) at Kisarya! The goyim (nations/Gentiles) receive the same Ruach (Spirit) as the Yahudim at Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) in Ch.2!]
16
Then I remembered the Davar (Word) of Yahuah, how that he said, Yochanan indeed immersed with mayim: but you shall be immersed with the Ruach HaKodesh.
17
Forasmuch then as Elohim gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on Adonai Yeshua HaMashiach -- who was I that I could withstand Elohim?
18
When they heard these things, they held their shalom (peace) and glorified Elohim, saying, Then has Elohim also to the goyim (nations/Gentiles) granted teshuvah (repentance) unto life.
19
Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stefanos, travelled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antiokh, proclaiming the Davar to none but unto the Yahudim only.
20
And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which when they were come to Antiokh, spoke unto the Yevanim, proclaiming Adonai Yeshua.
21
And the hand of Yahuah was with them: and a great number believed and turned unto Yahuah.
22
Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the kehillah which was in Yerushalayim: and they sent forth Bar-Nava, that he should go as far as Antiokh.
23
Who when he came and had seen the chen (grace) of Elohim, was glad, and exhorted them all that with purpose of lev they would cleave unto Yahuah.
24
For he was a good man and full of the Ruach HaKodesh and of emunah (faith): and much people was added unto Yahuah.
25
Then departed Bar-Nava to Tarsus to seek Sha'ul.
26
And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antiokh. And it came to pass that a whole year they assembled themselves with the kehillah (assembly) and taught much people, and the talmidim (disciples) were called Messianin (Μεσσίαν -- followers of the Messias, the Greek transliteration of HaMashiach (Messiah) -- Mashiach; cf. Yochanan 1:41, 4:25!) first in Antiokh. [The first use of this Shem (Name)! Messianin = those belonging to the Messias/HaMashiach (Messiah) -- far more Hebraic than the Latin "Christiani/Messianin (Messianin -- Gr. Messias (Messias) -- followers of the Messias/HaMashiach; first used in Antiokh (Acts 11:26))"]
27
And in these days came neviim fromYerushalayim unto Antiokh.
28
And there stood up one of them named Agavus, and signified by the Ruach (Spirit) that there should be great famine throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.
29
Then the talmidim (disciples), every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the achim which dwelt in Yehudah.
30
Which also they did, and sent it to the Zekenim (elders) by the hands of Bar-Nava and Sha'ul.
Chapter 12 Ya'akov Killed by Herod; Keifa in Prison -- Freed by a Malach; Herod Struck Down by a Malach of Yahuah -- Eaten by Worms
1
Now about that time, Herodes HaMelekh stretched forth his hands to harm certain of the kehillah.
2
And he killed Ya'akov the brother of Yochanan with the sword. [Ya'akov ben Zavdai -- the first shaliach to be martyred!
3
And because he saw it pleased the Yahudim, he proceeded further to take Keifa also. And those were the days of haMatzot (Unleavened Bread -- the Pesach festival).
4
And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him, intending after HaPesach to bring him forth to the am. [LXX/Greek: "meta to Pascha" -- AFTER THE PESACH -- NOT "Easter"! The KJV renders "Pesach" as "Easter" -- this is HaPesach!]
5
Keifa therefore was kept in prison, but tefillot were made without ceasing of the kehillah unto Elohim for him.
6
And when Herodes would have brought him forth, the same night Keifa was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7
And behold, the malach of Yahuah came upon him, and an or (light) shined in the prison: and he struck Keifa on the side and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8
And the malach said unto him, Gird yourself and bind on your sandals. And so he did. And he says unto him, Cast your garment Beged (בֶּגֶד) about you and follow me.
9
And he went out and followed him, and did not know that it was true which was done by the malach: but thought he saw a vision.
10
When they were past the first and the second guard, they came unto the sha'ar barzel (iron gate) that leads unto the city, which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out and passed on through one street, and straightway the malach departed from him.
11
And when Keifa was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a certainty that Yahuah has sent His malach, and has delivered me out of the hand of Herodes, and from all the expectation of the am of the Yahudim.
12
And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Miryam (Mary/Miriam) the mother of Yochanan whose surname was Markos, where many were gathered together praying. [Yochanan Markos -- the same Markos who wrote the Besorah of Markos! Son of this Miryam (Mary/Miriam)!]
13
And as Keifa knocked at the door of the gate, a young woman came to hearken, named Rhoda.
14
And when she recognized Keifa's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in and told how Keifa stood before the gate.
15
And they said unto her, You are out of your mind. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his malach.
16
But Keifa continued knocking: and when they had opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.
17
But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their shalom (peace), declared unto them how Yahuah had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go show these things unto Ya'akov and to the achim. And he departed and went into another place. [Ya'akov -- the brother of Yeshua, now leader of the Yerushalayim kehillah!]
18
Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what had become of Keifa.
19
And when Herodes had sought for him and found him not, he examined the keepers and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Yehudah to Kisarya and remained there.
20
And Herodes was highly displeased with them of Tzor (Tyre) and Tzidon (Sidon): but they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired shalom, because their country was nourished by the king's country.
21
And upon a set day Herodes, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his kise (throne) and made an oration unto them.
22
And the am (people) gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of Elohim and not of a man!
23
And immediately the malach of Yahuah smote him, because he gave not Elohim the kavod (glory): and he was eaten of worms and gave up the ghost. [Historically confirmed! Josephus records the death of Agrippa I from a worm-related disease -- Antiquities 19.8.2!]
24
But the Davar Elohim (Word of Elohim) grew and multiplied.
25
And Bar-Nava and Sha'ul returned from Yerushalayim, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them Yochanan whose surname was Markos.
Chapter 13 Bar-Nava and Sha'ul Sent from Antioch by the Ruach; Sha'ul's Derashah in Pisidian Antioch -- David, Yeshua, Tkhiyat HaMeitim; Isa.49:6 -- A Light for the Goyim!
1
Now there were in the kehillah that was at Antiokh certain neviim (prophets) and morim (teachers): as Bar-Nava, and Shim'on that was called Niger (the Black), and Lukios of Cyrene, and Menahem (who had been brought up with Herod the Tetrarch), and Sha'ul.
2
As they ministered to Yahuah and fasted, the Ruach HaKodesh said, Havdilu (Separate) for Me Bar-Nava and Sha'ul, for the work unto which I have called them.
3
And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them -- Smikhah (סְמִיכָה) -- they sent them away.
4
So they, being sent forth by the Ruach HaKodesh, departed unto Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.
5
And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the Davar Elohim in the Batei Knesset (בָּתֵּי כְּנֶסֶת Synagogues) of the Yahudim: and they had also Yochanan as their minister.
6
And when they had gone through the island unto Paphos, they found a certain makshef (sorcerer), a false navi, a Yahudi, whose Shem (Name) was Bar-Yeshua (Son of yeshuah (salvation) -- his Shem (Name) ironically contains "Yeshua"!):
7
Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man: who called for Bar-Nava and Sha'ul and desired to hear the Davar Elohim (Word of Elohim).
8
But Elymas the makshef (for so is his Shem (Name) by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the emunah (faith).
9
Then Sha'ul (who also is called Paulus), filled with the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh, set his eyes on him,
10
And said, O full of all subtlety and all mischief, you son of HaSatan, you enemy of all tzedakah (righteousness), will you not cease to pervert the straight derekh (way/path) of the Most High?
11
And now behold, the hand of the Most High is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the shemesh for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness, and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12
Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching/doctrine of Yahuah.
13
Now when Sha'ul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and Yochanan departing from them, returned to Yerushalayim.
14
But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antiokh in Pisidia, and went into the beit knesset (house of assembly/Synagogue) on the Shabbat day and sat down.
15
And after the reading of the Torah and the neviim, the rulers of the beit knesset (house of assembly) sent unto them, saying, Men and achim (brothers), if you have any Davar (Word) of exhortation for the am (people), say on. [The [Torah-reading service! The weekly parasha and haftarah readings -- already the established pattern of Hebraic Jewish worship!]
16
Then Sha'ul stood up, and beckoning with his hand, said, Men of Yisrael, and you that fear Elohim, give audience.
17
The Elohim of this am (people) Yisrael chose our fathers, and exalted the am (people) when they dwelt as gerim (strangers) in the land of Mitzrayim, and with a high arm brought He them out of it. [Exod.6:6 -- "v'hotzeiti etchem mitachat sivlot Mitzrayim uv'zero'a netuya" -- with an outstretched arm!]
18
And about the space of forty years He endured their ways in the midbar (wilderness).
19
And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Kena'an, He divided their land to them by lot:
20
And after that He gave unto them shoftim (judges) about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Shmu'el HaNavi.
21
And afterward they desired a melekh, and Elohim gave unto them Sha'ul (Sha'ul (Saul/Paul)) the son of Kish, a man of the shevet (tribe) of Binyamin, for forty years.
22
And when He had removed him, He raised up unto them David to be their melekh(king), to whom also He gave testimony and said, I have found David ben Yishai, a man after My own lev (levot (hearts)), who shall fulfill all My will. [1 Sam.13:14; Ps.89:20!]
23
Of this man's seed has Elohim, according to His promise, raised unto Yisrael a Moshia (Saviour/Deliverer), Yeshua:
24
When Yochanan had first proclaimed, before His coming, the tevilah of teshuvah to all the am of Yisrael.
25
And as Yochanan fulfilled his course, he said, Whom do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, whose sandals of His feet I am not worthy to loose.
26
Men and achim, children of the seed of Avraham, and whoever among you fears Elohim -- to you is the Davar (Word) of this yeshuah (salvation) sent.
27
For they that dwell at Yerushalayim and their rulers, because they did not know him, nor yet the voices of the neviim which are read every Shabbat, they fulfilled them in condemning him.
28
And though they found no cause of death in him, yet they desired Pilate that he should be slain.
29
And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from HaEtz (the Tree/cross) and laid him in a tomb. [All that was written -- Isa.53, Ps.22, Zech.12:10 -- all fulfilled!]
30
But Elohim raised him from the dead:
31
And he was seen many days by them which came up with him from Galil (Galilee) to Yerushalayim, who are his witnesses unto the am.
32
And we declare unto you the Besorah (Good News), how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33
Elohim has fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He has raised up Yeshua again; as it is also written in the second Tehillim, You are My Son, this day have I begotten You. [Ps.2:7 -- already cited in Acts 4:25! And 13:33 is the fullest citation!]
34
And as concerning that He raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, He said on this wise, I will give you the sure chasidei David (mercies of David). [LXX Isa.55:3 -- "v'e'evedah lachem Beriyt Olam, chasidei David hane'emanim" -- the sure mercies of David!]
35
Wherefore He says also in another Tehillim, You shall not suffer Your Kadosh One to see shachat (corruption). [Ps.16:10 -- "lo titen chasidekha lirot shachat" -- already cited in Acts 2:27! Stefanos' derashah confirmed by Sha'ul's!]
36
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of Elohim, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw shachat:
37
But He whom Elohim raised saw no shachat.
38
Be it known unto you therefore, men and achim, that through this man is proclaimed unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39
And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the Torah of Moshe.
40
Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken of in the neviim:
41
Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no way believe though a man declare it unto you. [LXX Hab.1:5 -- "Re'u bogdim v'hishtommu v'himu ki po'el po'el bimeikem" -- the warning from Chavakuk!]
42
And when the Yahudim were gone out of the beit knesset (house of assembly), the goyim (nations/Gentiles) besought that these words might be proclaimed to them the next Shabbat.
43
Now when the assembly was broken up, many of the Yahudim and devout gerim (strangers) followed Sha'ul and Bar-Nava, who speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the chen (grace)ofElohim.
44
And the next Shabbat day came almost the whole city together to hear the Davar (Word) Elohim.
45
But when the Yahudim saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Sha'ul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46
Then Sha'ul and Bar-Nava spoke boldly and said, It was necessary that the Davar Elohim should first have been spoken to you: but seeing you put it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life -- behold, we turn to the goyim (nations/Gentiles)!
47
For so has Yahuah commanded us, saying, I have set you to be an or lagoyim (light of/to the nations), that you should be for yeshuah (salvation) unto the ends of the aretz. [LXX Isa.49:6 -- "nataticha l'or goyim (nations/Gentiles) lihyot yeshuati ad ketzeh ha'aretz" -- the great Servant Song commission! THE turning point of the Besorah's mission!]
48
And when the goyim (nations/Gentiles) heard this, they were glad and glorified the Davar Yahuah: and as many as were appointed unto eternal life believed.
49
And the Davar Yahuah was published throughout all the region.
50
But the Yahudim stirred up the devout and honorable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Sha'ul and Bar-Nava, and expelled them out of their region.
51
But they shook off the dust of their feet against them [cf. Yeshua's command, Matt.10:14!], and came unto Iconium.
52
And the talmidim (disciples) were filled with joy and with the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit).
Chapter 14 Sha'ul and Bar-Nava in Iconium, Lystra, Derbe; Sha'ul Stoned at Lystra -- Raised Up; Return Through the Kehillot
1
And it came to pass in Iconium that they went both together into the beit knesset (house of assembly) of the Yahudim, and so spoke that a great multitude both of the Yahudim and also of the Yevanim believed.
2
But the unbelieving Yahudim stirred up the goyim (nations/Gentiles) and made their minds evil affected against the achim.
3
Long time therefore they abode, speaking boldly in Yahuah, who gave testimony unto the Davar of His chen, and granted otot u'moftim (signs and miracles) to be done by their hands.
4
But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Yahudim, and part with the shlichim.
5
And when there was an assault made both of the goyim (nations/Gentiles) and also of the Yahudim with their rulers, to treat them shamefully and to stone them,
6
They were aware of it and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region round about.
7
And there they proclaimed the Besorah.
8
And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who had never walked.
9
The same heard Sha'ul speak: who steadfastly beholding him and perceiving that he had emunah (faith) to be healed,
10
Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on your feet! And he leaped and walked.
11
And when the am (people) saw what Sha'ul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The elohim (gods) have come down to us in the likeness of men!
12
And they called Bar-Nava Zeus (Jupiter), and Sha'ul Hermes (Mercury), because he was the chief speaker.
13
Then the kohen of Zeus, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the am (people).
14
Which when the shlichim Bar-Nava and Sha'ul heard of, they rent their clothes -- keri'ah (the tearing of garments in horror at blasphemy!) -- and ran in among the am, crying out, [cf. the Kohen HaGadol's keri'ah at Yeshua trial -- Matt.26:65!]
15
And saying, Men, why do you do these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and proclaim unto you that you should turn from these hevelim (vanities/empty things -- cf. (Ecclesiastes) Kohelet 1:2!) unto the living Elohim, who made Shamayim and aretz and the yam (sea) and all things that are therein.
16
Who in times past He (Most High) let all goyim (nations/Gentiles) to walk in their own derekh (way/path).
17
Nevertheless He left not Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave us rain from Shamayim and fruitful seasons, filling our levot with food and joy. [cf. Deut.28:12 -- the covenant blessing of rain! And Eliyahu's tefillah -- Ya'akov 5:17-18!]
18
And with these sayings scarcely restrained they the am, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
19
And there came thither certain Yahudim from Antiokh and Iconium, who persuaded the am (people), and having stoned Sha'ul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. [2 Cor.11:25 -- "once I was stoned" -- this is that stoning! The same Sha'ul who stood by at Stefanos' stoning is himself stoned!]
20
Howbeit, as the talmidim (disciples) stood round about him, he rose up and came into the city, and the next day he departed with Bar-Nava to Derbe.
21
And when they had proclaimed the Besorah to that city and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra and to Iconium and Antiokh,
22
Confirming the nefashot (souls) of the talmidim (disciples) and exhorting them to continue in the emunah (faith), and that through much tzarah (tribulation) we must enter into the malkhut (kingdom) Elohim. [A key verse of Sha'ul's theology: suffering is the derekh (way/path) into the malkhut -- cf. the Beatitudes and the prophetic pattern!]
23
And when they had ordained Zekenim (Zekenim (elders)) in every kehillah, and had prayed with tzom (fasting), they commended them to Yahuah on whom they believed.
24
And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
25
And when they had proclaimed the Davar (Word) in Perga, they went down into Attalia.
26
And from there sailed to Antiokh, from where they had been commended to the chen (grace) of Elohim for the work which they fulfilled.
27
And when they were come and had gathered the kehillah together, they rehearsed all that Elohim had done with them, and how He had opened the delet (door) of emunah (faith) unto the goyim (nations/Gentiles).
28
And there they abode long time with the talmidim (disciples).
Chapter 15 The Jerusalem Council -- Torah and the Goyim; Ya'akov's Ruling -- Amos 9:11-12 (LXX!); The Letter to the Goyim; Sha'ul and Bar-Nava Part; Sha'ul Takes Silas
1
And certain men which came down from Yehudah taught the achim and said, Except you be circumcised after the manner of Moshe, you cannot be saved.
2
When therefore Sha'ul and Bar-Nava had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Sha'ul and Bar-Nava and certain others of them should go up to Yerushalayim unto the shlichim and Zekenim about this question.
3
And being brought on their way by the kehillah, they passed through Phoenicia and Shomron (Samaria), declaring the conversion of the goyim (nations/Gentiles): and they caused great joy unto all the achim.
4
And when they were come to Yerushalayim, they were received of the kehillah and of the shlichim and Zekenim, and they declared all things that Elohim had done with them.
5
But there rose up certain of the sect of the Perushim which believed, saying that it was needful to circumcise them and to command them to keep the Torah of Moshe.
6
And the shlichim and Zekenim came together to consider this matter.
7
And when there had been much disputing, Keifa rose up and said unto them, Men and achim, you know how that a good while ago Elohim made choice among us, that the goyim (nations/Gentiles) by my mouth should hear the Davar of the Besorah and believe.
8
And Elohim who knows the levot (Yode'a Levot (hearts) -- 1 Kgs.8:39!) bore them witness, giving them theRuach (Spirit) HaKodesh even as He did unto us,
9
And put no difference between us and them, purifying their levot by emunah (faith).
10
Now therefore why do you tempt Elohim, to put a yoke upon the neck of the talmidim (disciples), which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? [cf. Yeshua words: "My yoke is easy and My burden is light" -- Matt.11:30!]
11
But we believe that through the chen of Adonai Yeshua HaMashiach, we shall be saved even as they.
12
Then all the multitude kept silence and gave audience to Bar-Nava and Sha'ul, declaring what moftim and otot Elohim had wrought among the goyim (nations/Gentiles) by them.
13
And after they had held their shalom (peace), Ya'akov answered, saying, Men and achim, hear me.
14
Shim'on (Keifa) has declared how Elohim at the first did visit the goyim (nations/Gentiles) to take out of them an am (people) for His Shem (Name). [Ya'akov calls Keifa by his Hebrew Shem (Name) "Shim'on"! The leader of the Yerushalayim kehillah presides!]
15
And to this agree the words of the neviim, as it is written:
16
After this I will return and will build again the Mishkan David which has fallen down; and I will build again its ruins and I will set it up:
17
That the remnant of men might seekYahuah, and all the goyim (nations/Gentiles) upon whom My Shem (Name) is called, says Yahuah who does all these things. [LXX Amos 9:11-12! CRITICAL: The LXX reads τῶν ἀνθρώπων (tōn anthrōpōn): "of mankind" or "of humanity / men"(adam) where the MT reads "Edom" -- a one-letter difference! The LXX reading supports thegoyim (nations/Gentiles) mission! This is why LXX basis matters!]
18
Known unto Elohim are all His works from the beginning of the world.
19
Wherefore my mishpat is that we trouble not them which from among the goyim (nations/Gentiles) are turned to Elohim:
20
But that we write unto them that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from zenut (fornication), and from things strangled, and from dam. [The four prohibitions -- connected to the Noahide laws and Lev.17-18 -- the requirements for goyim (nations/Gentiles) to dwell among the am (people) of Yisrael!]
21
For Moshe of old time has in every city them that preach him, being read in the batei knesset every Shabbat. [The assumption: goyim (nations/Gentiles) believers will continue hearing the Torah through the weekly beit knesset (house of assembly) readings!]
22
Then it pleased the shlichim and Zekenim with the whole kehillah to send chosen men of their own company to Antiokh with Sha'ul and Bar-Nava: namely Yehudah surnamed Barsabba, and Silas, chief men among the achim.
23
And they wrote an iggeret (letter/epistle) by them after this manner: The shlichim and Zekenim and achim send greeting unto the achim which are of the goyim (nations/Gentiles) in Antiokh, and Syria, and Cilicia.
24
Forasmuch as we have heard that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your nefashot (souls), saying you must be circumcised and keep the Torah -- to whom we gave no such commandment:
25
It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Bar-Nava and Sha'ul,
26
Men that have hazarded their lives for the Shem (Name) of our Master Yeshua HaMashiach.
27
We have sent therefore Yehudah andSilas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
28
For it seemed good to the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:
29
That you abstain from things offered to idols, and from dam (blood), and from things strangled, and from zenut (fornication): from which if you keep yourselves, you shall do well. shalom.
30
So when they were dismissed, they came to Antiokh: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the iggeret (letter).
31
Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
32
And Yehudah and Silas, being neviim also themselves, exhorted the achim with many words and confirmed them.
33
And after they had remained there a space, they were let go in shalom from the achim unto the shlichim.
34
Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to remain there still.
35
Sha'ul also and Bar-Nava continued in Antiokh, teaching and proclaiming the Davar of Yahuah, with many others also.
36
And some days after, Sha'ul said unto Bar-Nava, Let us go again and visit our achim in every city where we have proclaimed the Davar of Yahuah, and see how they do.
37
And Bar-Nava determined to take with them Yochanan whose surname was Markos.
38
But Sha'ul thought it not good to take him who had departed from them from Pamphylia and went not with them to the work.
39
And the contention was so sharp between them that they departed asunder one from the other: and Bar-Nava took Markos and sailed unto Cyprus. [Bar-Nava goes with his kinsman Markos -- Col.4:10 -- who will later write the Besorah of Markos and he epistle of Barnabas!]
40
And Sha'ul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the achim unto the chen of Elohim.
41
And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the kehillot.
Chapter 16 Sha'ul Takes Timotiyos; The Macedonian Vision -- Come Over and Help Us; Lydia at Philippi; The Slave Girl with a Ruach; Sha'ul and Silas in Prison -- Earthquake; The Jailer Believes
1
Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and behold, a certain talmid (disciple) was there named Timotiyos, the son of a certain Yahudi woman who believed, but his father was a Yevan (Greek):
2
Who was well reported of by the achim (brothers) that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3
Him would Sha'ul have to go forth with him, and took and circumcised him because of the Yahudim which were in those regions: for they all knew that his father was a Yevan.
4
And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the gezarot (decrees) to keep that were ordained of the shlichim and Zekenim which were at Yerushalayim. [The rulings of the Yerushalayim Council -- Acts 15!]
5
And so the kehillot (assembly) were established in the emunah (faith) and increased in number daily.
6
Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden by the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to proclaim the Davar (Word) in Asia,
7
After they were come to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia: but the Ruach (Spirit) suffered them not.
8
And they passing by Mysia, came down to Troas.
9
And a chazon (vision) appeared to Sha'ul in the night: there stood a man of Makedonia and besought him, saying, Come over into Makedonia and help us!
10
And after he had seen the chazon, immediately we endeavoured to go into Makedonia, assuredly gathering that Yahuah had called us to proclaim the Besorah unto them. [The "we" sections begin! Luke joins Sha'ul's company at Troas!]
11
Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis:
12
And from there to Filipi, which is the chief city of that part of Makedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13
And on the Shabbat we went out of the city by a riverside, where tefillah (prayer) was customarily made, and we sat down and spoke unto the women which gathered there. [No beit knesset (house of assembly) -- fewer than ten men for a minyan -- so tefillah was held by the river!]
14
And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of argaman (purple -- cf. the argaman of the Mishkan, Exod.25:4!), of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped Elohim, heard us: whose lev (heart) Yahuah opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken by Sha'ul.
15
And when she and her household were immersed, she besought us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful toYahuah, come into my house and abide there. And she constrained us.
16
And it came to pass, as we went to tefillah, a certain young woman possessed with a Ruach (Spirit) kessem (spirit of divination) met us: which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying. [Lev.19:26 -- "lo t'nacheshu v'lo t'kshafu" -- divination forbidden in Torah!]
17
The same followed Sha'ul and us and cried, saying, These men are evedim (servants) of El Elyon (the Most High Elohim), which show unto us the derekh (way/path) of yeshuah (salvation).
18
And this she did many days: but Sha'ul being grieved, turned and said to the ruach (spirit), I command you in the Shem (Name) of Yeshua HaMashiach, come out of her! And it came out the same hour.
19
And when her masters saw that the tikvah (hope) of their gain was gone, they caught Sha'ul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20
And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Yahudim, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21
And teach customs which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romi'im (Romans).
22
And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates tore off their garments and commanded to beat them.
23
And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely.
24
Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25
And at chatzot (midnight) Sha'ul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto Elohim: and the prisoners heard them. [Ps.118:62 -- "Chatzot layla akum l'hodot lakh" -- "At midnight I rise to give thanks to You"! And Ps.33:2!]
26
And suddenly there was a great ra'ash (earthquake) so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were loosed.
27
And the keeper of the prison, awaking out of his sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew out his sword and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had fled.
28
But Sha'ul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.
29
Then he called for a light and sprang in and came trembling, and fell down before Sha'ul and Silas,
30
And brought them out and said, Masters, what must I do to be saved?
31
And they said, Believe on MasterYeshua HaMashiach, and you shall be saved, you and your household.
32
And they spoke unto him the Davar of Yahuah, and to all that were in his house.
33
And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes, and was immersed, he and all his, immediately.
34
And when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them and rejoiced, believing in Elohim with all his house.
35
And when it was day, the magistrates sent the officers, saying, Let those men go.
36
And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Sha'ul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart and go in shalom.
37
But Sha'ul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romi'im, and have cast us into prison, and now do they thrust us out secretly? By no means! But let them come themselves and bring us out.
38
And the officers told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared when they heard that they were Romi'im.
39
And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and asked them to depart out of the city.
40
And they went out of the prison and entered into the house of Lydia, and when they had seen the achim, they comforted them and departed.
Chapter 17 Thessalonica -- Yeshua Is the HaMashiach; Berea -- They Searched the Scriptures Daily; Sha'ul in Athens -- The Unknown Elohim; Areios Pagos (Areopagus)
1
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a beit knesset (house of assembly) of the Yahudim.
2
And Sha'ul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Shabbatot reasoned with them out of the Scriptures,
3
Opening and alleging that HaMashiach (Messiah) must needs have suffered and risen again from the dead: and that thisYeshua whom I proclaim unto you is HaMashiach (Messiah/Messias).
4
And some of them believed, and consorted with Sha'ul and Silas: and of the devout Yevanim a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5
But the Yahudim which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain base fellows of the marketplace and gathered a company, and set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Yason (Jason), and sought to bring them out to the am (people).
6
And when they found them not, they dragged Yason and certain achim (brothers) unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down have come hither also,
7
Whom Yason has received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another melekh, one Yeshua.
8
And they troubled the am and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.
9
And when they had taken security of Yason and of the other, they let them go.
10
And the achim immediately sent away Sha'ul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming there, went into the beit knesset (house of assembly) of the Yahudim.
11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Davar with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily to see whether those things were so. [The Bereans! The model of Torah study! cf. Ps.1:2 -- "b'Torato yehgeh yomam valaylah" -- in his Torah he meditates day and night!]
12
Therefore many of them believed: also of honorable Yevaniot (Greek) women, and of men not a few.
13
But when the Yahudim of Thessalonica had knowledge that the Davar Elohim was proclaimed by Sha'ul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the am (people).
14
And then immediately the achim sent away Sha'ul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotiyos abode there still.
15
And they that conducted Sha'ul brought him unto Athen (Athens), and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotiyos to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16
Now while Sha'ul waited for them at Athen (Athens), his Ruach (Spirit) was stirred within him when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
17
Therefore he reasoned in the beit knesset (house of assembly) with the Yahudim and with the devout persons, and in the marketplace daily with them that met with him.
18
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics encountered him: and some said, What will this babbler say? And others, He seems to be a setter forth of strange Elohim: because he proclaimed unto them Yeshua and the tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection of the dead).
19
And they took him and brought him unto the Areios Pagos (Areopagus), saying, May we know what this new teaching is whereof you speak?
20
For you bring certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21
For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
22
Then Sha'ul stood in the midst of the Areios Pagos and said, You men of Athen (Athens), I perceive that in all things you are very religious:
23
For as I passed by and beheld your devotions, I found a mizbeach (altar) with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN Elohim. Whom therefore you ignorantly worship, Him I declare unto you.
24
Elohim who made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Yahuah of Shamayim and aretz, dwells not in temples made with hands: [Isa.66:1-2 -- already cited in Acts 7:48-49! Stefanos' derashah (דְּרָשָׁה) translates directly to a sermon or homily confirmed by Sha'ul!]
25
Neither is He worshipped with men's hands as though He needed anything, seeing He gives to all life and breath and all things;
26
And has made of one dam (blood) all goyim (nations/Gentiles) of men to dwell on all the face of the aretz, and has determined the times before appointed and the bounds of their habitation:
27
That they should seek Yahuah, if perhaps they might feel after Him and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us.
28
For in Him we live and move and have our being, as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.
29
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of Elohim, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto zahav (gold) or kesef (silver) or stone graven by art and man's device.
30
And the times of this ignorance Elohim overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to do teshuvah (repentance):
31
Because He has appointed a Yom (Day) in which He will judge the world in tzedakah (righteousness), by that Man whom He has ordained, whereof He has given assurance unto all men in that He has raised him from the dead.
32
And when they heard of the Tkhiyat HaMeitim (תְּחִיַּת הַמֵּתִים) translates directly to "The Resurrection of the Dead" in Hebrew, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again of this matter.
33
So Sha'ul departed from among them.
34
Howbeit, certain men joined unto him and believed: among whom was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
Chapter 18 Sha'ul in Corinth -- Aquila and Priscilla; Sha'ul Before Gallio the Proconsul; Apollos -- Mighty in the Scriptures
1
After these things Sha'ul departed from Athen (Athens) and came to Korinthos (Korinthos (Corinth)),
2
And found a certain Yahudi named Aqila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had commanded all Yahudim to depart from Roma), and came unto them.
3
And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them and worked: for by their occupation they were osei ohalim (tentmakers).
4
And he reasoned in the beit knesset (house of assembly) every Shabbat, and persuaded the Yahudim and the Yevanim (Greeks).
5
And when Silas and Timotiyos were come from Makedonia, Sha'ul was pressed in Ruach (Spirit) and testified to the Yahudim that Yeshua is HaMashiach (Messiah).
6
And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said unto them, Your dam (blood) be upon your own heads -- I am pure: from henceforth I will go unto the goyim (nations/Gentiles). [Ezek.33:4 -- "his dam yihyeh b'rosho" -- your dam (blood) upon your own head!]
7
And he departed from there and entered into a certain man's house named Justus, one that worshipped Elohim, whose house joined hard to the beit knesset (house of assembly).
8
And Krispus, the chief ruler of the beit knesset (house of assembly), believed on Yahuah with all his house: and many of the Korinthians, hearing, believed and were immersed.
9
Then spoke Yahuah to Sha'ul in the night by a chazon, Do not be afraid, but speak and do not hold your shalom (peace):
10
For I am with you, and no man shall set on you to hurt you: for I have much am (people) in this city.
11
And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the Davar Elohim among them.
12
And when Gallion was the deputy of Achaia, the Yahudim made insurrection with one accord against Sha'ul and brought him to the bema (mishpat (judgment) seat),
13
Saying, This man persuades men to worship Elohim contrary to the Torah.
14
And when Sha'ul was now about to open his mouth, Gallion said unto the Yahudim, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O you Yahudim, reason would that I should bear with you:
15
But if it be a question of words and names and of your Torah, look you to it: for I will be no judge of such matters.
16
And he drove them from the bema (judgment seat).
17
Then all the Yevanim (Greeks) took Sosthenes the chief ruler of the beit knesset (house of assembly) and beat him before the bema: and Gallion cared for none of those things.
18
And Sha'ul after this remained there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the achim and sailed from there into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aqila: having shaved his head in Cenchrea, for he had a neder (vow). [A Nazir vow! Num.6 -- the Nazirite vow! Sha'ul kept the Torah observances throughout his life!]
19
And he came to Ephesos and left them there: but he himself entered into the beit knesset (house of assembly) and reasoned with the Yahudim.
20
When they desired him to remain longer time with them, he consented not:
21
But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this chag (feast) that comes, in Yerushalayim -- but I will return again unto you, if Elohim will. And he sailed from Ephesos.
22
And when he had landed at Kisarya, and gone up and greeted the kehillah, he went down to Antiokh.
23
And after he had spent some time there, he departed and went throughout the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the talmidim (disciples).
24
And a certain Yahudi named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesos.
25
This man was instructed in HaDerekh (the Way) of Yahuah, and being fervent in the Ruach (Spirit), he spoke and taught diligently the things of Yahuah, knowing only the tevilah (baptism) of Yochanan.
26
And he began to speak boldly in the beit knesset (house of assembly): whom when Aqila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them and expounded unto him HaDerekh (the Way)Elohim more accurately.
27
And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the achim wrote, exhorting the talmidim (disciples) to receive him: who when he was come, helped them much which had believed through chen.
28
For he mightily convinced the Yahudim, and that publicly, showing by the Scriptures that Yeshua is HaMashiach (Messiah).
Chapter 19 Sha'ul in Ephesus -- Twelve Who Received Only Yochanan's Tevilah; The School of Tyrannus; HaDerekh Threatened; The Great Riot of the Silversmiths -- Great Is Artemis of the Ephesians!
1
And it came to pass that while Apollos was at Korinthos, Sha'ul having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesos, and finding certain talmidim (disciples),
2
He said unto them, Have you received the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) since you believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there is a Ruach HaKodesh.
3
And he said unto them, Unto what then were you immersed? And they said, Unto Yochanan's tevilah (baptism).
4
Then said Sha'ul, Yochanan truly immersed with the tevilah of teshuvah, saying unto the am (people) that they should believe on Him who should come after him, that is, on HaMashiach (Messiah) Yeshua.
5
When they heard this, they were immersed in the Shem (Name) of Master Yeshua.
6
And when Sha'ul had laid his hands upon them -- smikhah -- the Ruach HaKodesh came on them, and they spoke with leshonot (tongues) and prophesied.
7
And all the men were about twelve.
8
And he went into the beit knesset (house of assembly) and spoke boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the malkhut (kingdom) of Elohim.
9
But when certain were hardened and believed not, but spoke evil of HaDerekh (the Way) of Mashiach before the multitude, he departed from them and separated the talmidim (disciples), disputing daily in the beit midrash of one Tyrannus. [HaDerekh (the Way) -- HaDerekh (the Way -- the early name of the Messianic movement) -- threatened! And a beit midrash for daily Torah disputation!]
10
And this continued for the space of two years, so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the Davar of Master Yeshua, both Yahudim and Yevanim (Greeks).
11
And Elohim wrought special moftim (miracles) by the hands of Sha'ul:
12
So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil ruchot (spirits) went out of them.
13
Then certain vagabond Yahudi exorcists took upon them to call over those which had evil ruchot, the Shem (Name) of Master Yeshua, saying, We adjure you by Yeshua whom Sha'ul proclaims.
14
And there were seven sons of one Skeva, a Yahudi and chief of the Kohanim, who did so.
15
And the evil ruach (spirit) answered and said, Yeshua I know, and Sha'ul I know -- but who are you?
16
And the man in whom the evil ruach (spirit) was leapt on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17
And this was known to all the Yahudim and Yevanim also dwelling at Ephesos, and fear fell on them all, and the Shem (Name) of Master Yeshua was magnified.
18
And many that believed came and confessed and showed their deeds.
19
Many also of them which practiced curious arts brought their sefarim (books) together and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of kesef. [The burning of sorcery sefarim (books) -- a great teshuvah!]
20
So mightily grew the Davar Elohim and prevailed.
21
After these things were ended, Sha'ul purposed in the Ruach (Spirit), when he had passed through Makedonia and Achaia, to go to Yerushalayim, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Roma.
22
So he sent into Makedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotiyos and Erastus, but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
23
And the same time there arose no small stir about HaDerekh (the Way).
24
For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Artemis (Diana), brought no small gain unto the craftsmen:
25
Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation and said, Men, you know that by this craft we have our wealth.
26
Moreover, you see and hear that not alone at Ephesos but almost throughout all Asia, this Sha'ul has persuaded and turned away much am (people), saying that they are no Elohim which are made with hands.
27
So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at naught, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis should be despised and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.
28
And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!
29
And the whole city was filled with confusion, and having caught Gaios and Aristarchus, men of Makedonia and Sha'ul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theater.
30
And when Sha'ul would have entered in unto the am (people), the talmidim (disciples) suffered him not.
31
And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not venture himself into the theater.
32
Some therefore cried one thing and some another: for the assembly was confused, and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.
33
And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Yahudim putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand and would have made his defense unto the am (people).
34
But when they knew that he was a Yahudi, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!
35
And when the town clerk had quieted the am, he said, You men of Ephesos, what man is there that does not know how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?
36
Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, you ought to be quiet and to do nothing rashly.
37
For you have brought hither these men which are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your goddess:
38
Wherefore if Demetrius and the craftsmen which are with him have a matter against any man, the courts are open and there are deputies -- let them implead one another.
39
But if you inquire anything concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.
40
For we are in danger to be called to account for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this gathering.
41
And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
Chapter 20 Sha'ul's Journey to Macedonia and Greece; Eutychus Falls from the Third Floor -- Raised; Sha'ul's Farewell to the Zekenim of Ephesus at Miletus
1
And after the uproar was ceased, Sha'ul called unto him the talmidim (disciples) and embraced them, and departed to go into Makedonia.
2
And when he had gone over those parts and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece,
3
And there abode three months: and when the Yahudim laid wait for him as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Makedonia.
4
And there accompanied him into Asia, Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaios of Derbe, and Timotiyos; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.
5
These going before waited for us at Troas:
6
And we sailed away from Filipi after the days of haMatzot (Chag HaMatzot — the seven days of Passover unleavened bread are now complete!), and came unto them to Troas in five days, where we abode seven days. [After the Pesach / haMatzot festival! Sha'ul observed the Torah festivals throughout his life!]
7
And upon Yom HaBikkurim — the first day of the Sefirat HaOmer — when we had gathered together for betziat halechem (The Breaking of the Bread), Sha'ul preached to them, being about to depart on the morrow, and he extended the Davar until chatzot (midnight — Ps.119:62!). Day 1 of the Omer — "the one [day] of the [counted] Shabbatot" — not "the first day of the week" in the generic sense, but the first day of the seven-Shabbat count toward Shavuot.
8
And there were many lights in the aliyah (upper chamber) where they were gathered together.
9
And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutykhos, being fallen into a deep sleep, and as Sha'ul was long preaching, he sank down with sleep and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
10
And Sha'ul went down and fell on him and embracing him, said, Do not trouble yourselves, for his nefesh is in him. [cf. Eliyahu stretching himself on the child (1 Kgs.17:21) and Elisha on the Shunammite's son (2 Kgs.4:34)!]
11
When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
12
And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
13
And we went before to ship and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Sha'ul: for so had he appointed, intending himself to go by foot.
14
And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in and came to Mitylene.
15
And we sailed from there, and came the next day opposite Chios, and the next day arrived at Samos, and stayed at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus.
16
For Sha'ul had determined to sail by Ephesos, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hastened, if it were possible for him, to be at Yerushalayim on the day of Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost). [Sha'ul rushing to be at Yerushalayim for Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) -- the great pilgrimage chag! The same Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) that opened Acts 2!]
17
And from Miletus he sent to Ephesos and called the Zekenim of the kehillah.
18
And when they were come to him, he said unto them, You know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I was with you at all seasons,
19
Serving Yahuah with all anavah (humility) of mind, and with many tears, and nisyonot which befell me by the lying in wait of the Yahudim:
20
And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shown you and have taught you publicly and from house to house,
21
Testifying both to the Yahudim and also to the Yevanim, teshuvah toward Elohim and emunah (faith) toward our Master Yeshua HaMashiach.
22
And now behold, I go bound in the Ruach (Spirit) unto Yerushalayim, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
23
Except that the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and tzarot (affliction) await me.
24
But none of these things move me, neither do I count my nefesh dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of Master Yeshua, to testify the Besorah of the chen (grace) of Elohim.
25
And now behold, I know that you all, among whom I have gone proclaiming the malkhut (kingdom) of Elohim, shall see my face no more.
26
Wherefore I take you to record this day that I am tahor (pure) from the dam (dam (blood)) of all men. [Ezek.33:8-9 -- the watchman who warns is pure of dam (blood); the one who does not warn is accountable!]
27
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of Elohim.
28
Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the tzon (flock), over which the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh has made you Pokdim (overseers), to shepherd the kehillah Elohim which He purchased with His own dam. [cf. 1 Pet.2:25 -- "Ro'eh v'Poked"! And Ezek.34 -- the charge to the Ro'im!]
29
For I know this, that after my departure, grievous ze'avim (wolves) shall enter in among you, not sparing the tzon (flock). [cf. Yeshua warning -- "beware of false neviim who come in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous ze'avim" -- Matt.7:15!]
30
Also of your own selves shall men arise speaking perverse things, to draw away talmidim (disciples) after them.
31
Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.
32
And now achim, I commend you to Elohim and to the Davar of His chen, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all them which are mekudashim (mekudashim (sanctified/set apart)).
33
I have coveted no man's kesef (silver) or zahav (gold) or apparel.
34
Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have ministered unto my necessities and to them that were with me.
35
I have shown you all things, how that so laboring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of Master Yeshua, how he said, It is more Ashrei (blessed) to give than to receive. [An agraphon -- a saying of Yeshua not recorded in the Gospels! Preserved here by Sha'ul!]
36
And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down and prayed with them all.
37
And they all wept greatly, and fell on Sha'ul's neck and kissed him,
38
Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spoke, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
Chapter 21 Sha'ul Returns to Yerushalayim; Agabus Prophesies Sha'ul's Arrest; Sha'ul Arrested in the Heichal Courts
1
And it came to pass that after we were gotten from them and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Cos (Choos), and the day following unto Rhodes, and from there unto Patara.
2
And finding a ship sailing over unto Phoenicia, we went aboard and set forth.
3
Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tzor (Tyre): for there the ship was to unload her burden.
4
And finding talmidim (disciples), we remained there seven days: who said to Sha'ul through the Ruach (Spirit), that he should not go up to Yerushalayim.
5
And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way, and they all brought us on our way with wives and children until we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore and prayed.
6
And when we had taken leave of one another, we took ship, and they returned home again.
7
And when we had finished our course from Tzor, we came to Ptolemais and greeted the achim, and abode with them one day.
8
And the next day we that were of Sha'ul's company departed and came unto Kisarya, and we entered into the house of Filippos HaMevaser (the Evangelist -- the Herald of the Besorah!), which was one of the shivah (seven), and abode with him.
9
And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which prophesied. [Fulfilling Yoel 2:28 cited in Acts 2:17 -- "your daughters shall prophesy"! The Ruach HaKodesh upon the nashim!]
10
And as we remained there many days, there came down from Yehudah a certain navi named Agavus.
11
And when he was come unto us, he took Sha'ul's girdle and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus says the Ruach HaKodesh, So shall the Yahudim at Yerushalayim bind the man that owns this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the goyim (nations/Gentiles). [A sign-act! cf. Yesha'yahu (Isa.20), Yirmeyahu (Jer.27), Yechezke'l (Ezek.4) -- the classic prophetic sign-acts! "Koh amar Ruach HaKodesh" -- using the prophetic formula "Koh amar Yahuah"!]
12
And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Yerushalayim.
13
Then Sha'ul answered, What do you mean by weeping and breaking my lev (heart)? For I am ready not only to be bound but also to die at Yerushalayim for the Shem (Name) of MasterYeshua.
14
And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of Yahuah be done. [cf. Yeshua tefillah in Gethsemane -- "not My will but Yours be done"!]
15
And after those days we took up our baggage and went up to Yerushalayim.
16
There went with us also certain of the talmidim (disciples) of Kisarya, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old talmid (disciple), with whom we should lodge.
17
And when we were come to Yerushalayim, the achim received us gladly.
18
And the day following Sha'ul went in with us unto Ya'akov, and all the Zekenim were present.
19
And when he had greeted them, he declared particularly what things Elohim had wrought among the goyim (nations/Gentiles) by his ministry.
20
And when they heard it, they glorified Yahuah, and said unto him, You see, ach (brother), how many tens of thousands of Yahudim there are which believe, and they are all qanna'im (zealous) for the Torah. [Tens of thousands of Torah-observant Yahudi believers in Yerushalayim!]
21
And they are informed of you that you teach all the Yahudim which are among the goyim (nations/Gentiles) to forsake Moshe, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.
22
What is it therefore? The multitude must needs come together, for they will hear that you are come.
23
Do therefore this that we say to you: We have four men which have a neder (vow) on them,
24
Take them and purify yourself with them and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning you are nothing, but that you yourself also walk in order and keep the Torah. [Sha'ul performing a Nazir rite (Num.6) -- demonstrating his Torah faithfulness against the false rumors!]
25
As touching the goyim (nations/Gentiles) which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, except only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from dam (blood), and from things strangled, and from zenut. [The four prohibitions of the Yerushalayim Council -- Acts 15:29!]
26
Then Sha'ul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them, entered into the Heychal to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until an offering should be offered for every one of them:
27
And when the seven days were almost ended, the Yahudim which were of Asia, when they saw him in the Heychal, stirred up all the am (people) and laid hands on him,
28
Crying out, Men of Yisrael, help! This is the man that teaches all men everywhere against the am, and the Torah, and this place: and further brought Yevanim also into the Heychal, and has polluted this HaMakom HaKadosh (Holy Place). [A false accusation! They had seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city and assumed he brought him into the Heychal!]
29
For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Sha'ul had brought into the Heychal.
30
And all the city was moved and the am ran together: and they took Sha'ul and drew him out of the Heychal: and immediately the doors were shut.
31
And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band that all Yerushalayim was in an uproar.
32
Who immediately took soldiers and centurions and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating Sha'ul.
33
Then the chief captain came near and took him and commanded him to be bound with two chains, and demanded who he was and what he had done.
34
And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the citadel.
35
And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was carried by the soldiers for the violence of the am.
36
For the multitude of the am (people) followed after, crying, Away with him!
37
And as Sha'ul was to be led into the citadel, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto you? Who said, Can you speak Greek?
38
Are you not that Egyptian who before these days made an uproar and led out into the midbar (wilderness) four thousand men that were murderers?
39
But Sha'ul said, I am a Yahudi man of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech you, permit me to speak unto the am (people).
40
And when he had given him permission, Sha'ul stood on the stairs and beckoned with the hand unto the am: and when there was made a great silence, he spoke unto them in Ivrit (Hebrew), saying: [Sha'ul addresses the crowd in the kadosh (holy) leshonot(languages/tongues)! The Hebraic man at the center of the book of Acts!]
Chapter 22 Sha'ul's Defense Before the Crowd -- His Conversion on the Derekh; Sha'ul's Roman Citizenship
1
Men, achim, and fathers, hear my defense (apologia) which I make now unto you.
2
And when they heard that he spoke in the Ivrit leshonot (languages/tongues) to them, they kept the more silence: and he said,
3
I am indeed a Yahudi man, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamli'el, and taught according to the perfect manner of the Torah of our fathers, and was zealous toward Elohim, as you all are this day. [At the feet of GAMLI'EL! -- Gamli'el HaZaken, grandson of Hillel, Nasi of the Sanhedrin (the ruling council)! Already cited in Acts 5:34! The greatest rabbinic training of his generation!]
4
And I persecuted HaDerekh (the Way) unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women,
5
As also the Kohen HaGadol (High Prist) bears me witness, and all the Sanhedrin (the ruling council): from whom also I received letters unto the achim and went to Dammesek, to bring them which were there, bound unto Yerushalayim, for to be punished.
6
And it came to pass that as I made my journey and was come near unto Dammesek about noon, suddenly there shone from Shamayim a great or (light) round about me.
7
And I fell unto the ground and heard a voice saying unto me, Sha'ul, Sha'ul, why do you persecute Me? [The doubled Shem (Name) -- "Sha'ul, Sha'ul" -- as in Ch.9! The divine calling pattern of Avraham, Moshe, Shmu'el!]
8
And I answered, Who are You, Adon? And He said unto me, I am Yeshua HaNatzri whom you persecute.
9
And they that were with me saw indeed the or and were afraid, but they heard not the voice of Him that spoke to me.
10
And I said, What shall I do, Adonai Yeshua? And Yeshua said unto me, Arise and go into Dammesek, and there it shall be told you of all things which are appointed for you to do.
11
And when I could not see for the kavod (glory) of that or, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Dammesek.
12
And one Chananyah, a chasid (devout man) according to the Torah, having a good report of all the Yahudim which dwelt there,
13
Came unto me and stood and said unto me, Ach Sha'ul, receive your sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
14
And he said, The Elohim of our fathers has chosen you, that you should know His will, and see HaTzaddik (Just one), and should hear the voice of His mouth. [HaTzaddik -- "the Righteous One" -- the Messianic (followers of the Messiah/Messias) title! cf. Acts 7:52!]
15
For you shall be His ed (witness) unto all men of what you have seen and heard.
16
And now why do you wait? Arise and be immersed and wash away your sins, calling on His Shem (Name).
17
And it came to pass that when I was come again to Yerushalayim, even while I prayed in the Heychal, I was in a trance, [Sha'ul praying in the Heychal -- the Torah-observant Yahudi who prays at the Miqdash (holy place)!]
18
And saw Him saying unto me, Make haste and get quickly out of Yerushalayim: for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.
19
And I said, Yahuah, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every beit knesset (house of assembly) them that believed on You.
20
And when the dam of Your ed (witness/martyr) Stefanos was shed, I also was standing by and consenting unto his death, and kept the garments of them that slew him. [The first use of "ed" (עֵד -- witness) for martyrdom! The Greek "martys" translates the Hebrew "ed" -- "martyr" = "witness"! Stefanos was the first ed/martyr!]
21
And He said unto me, Depart: for I will send you far hence unto the goyim (nations/Gentiles).
22
And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices and said, Away with such a man from the aretz: for it is not fitting that he should live!
23
And as they cried out and cast off their garments and threw dust into the air,
24
The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the citadel, and ordered that he should be examined by scourging: that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.
25
And as they bound him with thongs, Sha'ul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Romi and uncondemned?
26
When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what you do, for this man is a Romi (Roman).
27
Then the chief captain came and said unto him, Tell me, are you a Romi? He said, Yes.
28
And the chief captain answered, With a great sum I obtained this citizenship. And Sha'ul said, But I was free-born. [Roman citizenship by birth -- a sovereign protection Yahuah had prepared for Sha'ul's mission!]
29
Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid after he knew that he was a Romi, and because he had bound him.
30
On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Yahudim, he loosed him from his bonds and commanded the chief Kohanim and all the Sanhedrin (the ruling council) to appear, and brought Sha'ul down and set him before them.
Chapter 23 Sha'ul Before the Sanhedrin -- Divided Between Perushim and Tzaddukim; The Plot to Kill Sha'ul; Transferred to Caesarea
1
And Sha'ul, earnestly beholding the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), said, Men and achim (brothers), I have lived in all good conscience before Elohim until this day.
2
And Chananyah the Kohen HaGadol commanded them that stood by him to strike him on the mouth.
3
Then said Sha'ul unto him, Elohim shall strike you, you whitewashed wall! For you sit to judge me after the Torah, and command me to be struck contrary to the Torah?
4
And they that stood by said, Do you revile the Kohen HaGadol of Elohim?
5
Then said Sha'ul, I did not know, achim, that he was the Kohen HaGadol: for it is written, You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your am. [Exod.22:28 -- "Nasi b'amkha lo ta'or" -- you shall not curse a ruler of your people!]
6
But when Sha'ul perceived that one part were Tzaddukim (Sadducees) and the other Perushim (Pharisees), he cried out in the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), Men and achim, I am a Perushi, a son of Perushim: concerning the Tikvah (hope) and tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection of the dead) I am called in question.
7
And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Perushim and the Tzaddukim: and the multitude was divided.
8
For the Tzaddukim say that there is no tkhiyat hameitim, neither malach nor Ruach (Spirit): but the Perushim confess both.
9
And there arose a great cry: and the Sofrim (Scribes) that were of the Perushim's part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: and if a Ruach (Spirit) or a malach has spoken to him, let us not fight against Elohim.
10
And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Sha'ul should have been pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the citadel.
11
And the night following the Master stood by him and said, Be of good courage, Sha'ul: for as you have testified of Me at Yerushalayim, so must you also testify at Roma (Rome).
12
And when it was day, certain of the Yahudim banded together and bound themselves under a cherem (oath), saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Sha'ul. [A cherem -- a binding oath of excommunication! They swore under herem not to eat or drink until they killed Sha'ul! This is how seriously they took their mission!]
13
And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
14
And they came to the chief Kohanim and Zekenim, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great cherem, that we will eat nothing until we have killed Sha'ul.
15
Now therefore you with the Sanhedrin (the ruling council) signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you tomorrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
16
And when Sha'ul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the citadel and told Sha'ul.
17
Then Sha'ul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he has a certain thing to tell him.
18
So he took him and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Sha'ul the prisoner called me unto him, and asked me to bring this young man unto you, who has something to say to you.
19
Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is it that you have to tell me?
20
And he said, The Yahudim have agreed to desire you that you would bring down Sha'ul tomorrow into the Sanhedrin (the ruling council), as though they would inquire something more perfectly concerning him.
21
But do not yield to them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves under a cherem, that they will neither eat nor drink until they have killed him: and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.
22
So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See you tell no man that you have showed these things to me.
23
And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Kisarya (Cesarea), and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night.
24
And provide mounts, that they may set Sha'ul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.
25
And he wrote a letter after this manner:
26
Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix, shalom.
27
This man was taken of the Yahudim, and should have been killed by them: then came I with an army and rescued him, having understood that he was a Romi.
28
And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their Sanhedrin (the ruling council):
29
Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their Torah, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
30
And when it was told me how that the Yahudim laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to you, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before you what they had against him. shalom.
31
Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Sha'ul and brought him by night to Antipatris.
32
On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the citadel:
33
Who, when they came to Kisarya and delivered the letter to the governor, presented Sha'ul also before him.
34
And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia,
35
I will hear you, he said, when your accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in the mishpat (judgment) hall of Herod.
Chapter 24 Sha'ul Before Felix the Governor -- Five Days After Tzedakah, Self-Restraint, and the Coming Mishpat; Felix Sends for Sha'ul Often
1
And after five days Chananyah the Kohen HaGadol descended with the Zekenim and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Sha'ul.
2
And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by you we enjoy great shalom (peace), and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by your care,
3
We accept it always and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.
4
Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto you, I pray you that you would hear us of your kindness a few words.
5
For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Yahudim throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes (HaNotzrim):
6
Who also has gone about to profane the Heychal: whom we took, and would have judged according to our Torah.
7
But the chief captain Lysias came upon us and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
8
Commanding his accusers to come unto you: by examining of whom yourself may take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him.
9
And the Yahudim also assented, saying that these things were so.
10
Then Sha'ul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that you have been for many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
11
Because you may understand that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Yerushalayim to worship.
12
And they neither found me in the Heychal disputing with any man, neither raising up the am, neither in the batei knesset, nor in the city:
13
Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
14
But this I confess unto you, that after HaDerekh (the Way) which they call a sect, so worship I the Elohim of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Torah and in the neviim:
15
And have Tikvah (hope) toward Elohim, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection of the dead), both of the tzaddikim (just) and the resha'im (unjust).
16
And herein I exercise myself, to have always a matzpun (conscience) void of offense toward Elohim and toward men.
17
Now after many years I came to bring tzedakah (alms) to my nation, and offerings.
18
Whereupon certain Yahudim from Asia found me purified in the Heychal, neither with multitude nor with tumult.
19
Who ought to have been here before you and object if they had anything against me.
20
Or else let these same here say if they have found any evildoing in me while I stood before the Sanhedrin (the ruling council),
21
Except it be for this one voice that I cried standing among them, Touching the tkhiyat hameitim of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
22
And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of HaDerekh (the Way), he deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the certainty of your matter.
23
And he commanded a centurion to keep Sha'ul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
24
And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Yahudi woman, he sent for Sha'ul and heard him concerning the emunah (faith) in HaMashiach (Messiah) Yeshua.
25
And as he reasoned of tzedakah (righteousness), and self-restraint, and the mishpat (judgment) to come, Felix trembled and answered, Go your way for this time; when I have a convenient season I will call for you.
26
He hoped also that money would have been given him of Sha'ul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the more often and communed with him.
27
But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix's room: and Felix, willing to show the Yahudim a pleasure, left Sha'ul bound.
Chapter 25 Sha'ul Before Festus -- I Appeal to Caesar; Agrippa and Bernice Visit; Sha'ul to Be Heard Before the King
1
Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Kisarya to Yerushalayim.
2
Then the Kohen HaGadol and the chiefs of the Yahudim informed him against Sha'ul, and besought him,
3
And desired favor against him, that he would send for him to Yerushalayim, laying wait in the derekh (way/path) to kill him.
4
But Festus answered that Sha'ul should be kept at Kisarya, and that he himself would depart shortly there.
5
Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
6
And when he had remained among them more than ten days, he went down unto Kisarya, and the next day sitting on the bema, commanded Sha'ul to be brought.
7
And when he was come, the Yahudim which came down from Yerushalayim stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Sha'ul, which they could not prove,
8
While he answered for himself, Neither against the Torah of the Yahudim, neither against the Heychal, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended anything at all.
9
But Festus, willing to do the Yahudim a pleasure, answered Sha'ul and said, Will you go up to Yerushalayim and there be judged of these things before me?
10
Then said Sha'ul, I stand at Caesar's bema(Judgment seat), where I ought to be judged: to the Yahudim have I done no wrong, as you very well know.
11
For if I am an offender or have committed anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal to Caesar! [The great "Provocatio ad Caesarem"! Sha'ul's Roman citizenship shields him and directs him to Roma -- fulfilling Yahuah's word in Ch.23:11!]
12
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Have you appealed unto Caesar? Unto Caesar shall you go!
13
And after certain days, King Agrippa and Bernice came unto Kisarya to greet Festus. [Agrippa II -- great-grandson of Herod the Great! And Bernice his sister. The last of the Herodian royal line!]
14
And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Sha'ul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
15
About whom when I was at Yerushalayim, the chief Kohanim and the Zekenim of the Yahudim informed me, desiring to have mishpat (judgment) against him.
16
To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romi'im to deliver any man to die before that he which is accused has the accusers face to face, and has license to answer for himself concerning the charge laid against him.
17
Therefore when they were come hither, without any delay, on the morrow I sat on the bema and commanded the man to be brought forth.
18
Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought no accusation of such things as I supposed:
19
But had certain questions against him of their own religion, and of one Yeshua who was dead, whom Sha'ul affirmed to be alive. [Even a Roman governor summarizes the entire Besorah: "one Yeshua who was dead, whom Sha'ul affirms to be alive" -- the tkhiyat hameitim in one sentence!]
20
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Yerushalayim and there be judged of these matters.
21
But when Sha'ul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.
22
Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. Tomorrow, said he, you shall hear him.
23
And on the morrow when Agrippa was come and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing with the chief captains and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Sha'ul was brought forth.
24
And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, you see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Yahudim have dealt with me, both at Yerushalayim and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
25
But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself has appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
26
Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my Adon (Lord): wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and especially before you, O King Agrippa, that after examination had, I might have something to write.
27
For it seems to me unreasonable to send a prisoner and not also to indicate the charges laid against him.
Chapter 26 Sha'ul Before Agrippa -- His Full Defense: From Sha'ul to Shaliach; The Vision on the Derekh to Damascus; Agrippa: Almost You Persuade Me to Be a Messianic
1
Then Agrippa said unto Sha'ul, You are permitted to speak for yourself. Then Sha'ul stretched forth the hand and answered for himself:
2
I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before you touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Yahudim:
3
Especially because I know you to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Yahudim: wherefore I beseech you to hear me patiently.
4
My manner of life from my youth, which was from the beginning among my own nation at Yerushalayim, know all the Yahudim,
5
Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived as a Perushi.
6
And now I stand and am judged for the tikvah of the promise made of Elohim unto our fathers:
7
Unto which promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving Elohim day and night, tikvah (hope) to come. For which tikvah (hope)'s sake, King Agrippa, I am accused of the Yahudim.
8
Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you that Elohim should raise the dead?
9
I truly thought with myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the Shem (Name) of Yeshua HaNatzri.
10
Which things I also did in Yerushalayim: and many of the kedoshim did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief Kohanim; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.
11
And I punished them often in everybeit knesset (house of assembly), and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.
12
Whereupon as I went to Dammesek with authority and commission from the chief Kohanim,
13
At midday, O king, I saw in the derekh (way/path) a or (light) from Shamayim, above the brightness of the shemesh, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
14
And when we were all fallen to the aretz, I heard a voice speaking unto me and saying in the Ivrit leshonot (languages/tongues), Sha'ul, Sha'ul, why do you persecute Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.
15
And I said, who are You, Adonai? And He said, I am Yeshua whom you persecute.
16
But rise and stand upon your feet: for I have appeared unto you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of these things which you have seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto you;
17
Delivering you from the am, and from the goyim (nations/Gentiles), unto whom now I send you,
18
To open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to or (light), and from the power of HaSatan unto Elohim, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are mekudashim (mekudashim (sanctified/set apart)) by emunah (faith) that is in Me. [Isa.42:7! Isa.49:6! The Servant Song commission -- "opening the eyes of the blind, bringing out prisoners from the dungeon"!]
19
Whereupon, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly chazon:
20
But showed first unto them of Dammesek, and at Yerushalayim, and throughout all the coasts of Yehudah, and then to the goyim (nations/Gentiles), that they should do teshuvah and turn to Elohim, and do works befitting teshuvah.
21
For these causes the Yahudim caught me in the Heychal and went about to kill me.
22
Having therefore obtained help of Elohim, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the neviim and Moshe did say should come:
23
That HaMashiach (Messiah) should suffer, and that He should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should show or (light) unto the am (people) and to the goyim (nations/Gentiles).
24
And as he thus spoke for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Sha'ul, you are beside yourself! Much learning makes you mad!
25
But he said, I am not mad, most excellent Festus, but speak forth the words of emet and sound reason.
26
For the king knows of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him, for this thing was not done in a corner.
27
King Agrippa, do you believe the neviim? I know that you believe.
28
Then Agrippa said unto Sha'ul, Almost you persuade me to be a Messianin! [The great response! "Kim'at tid'ah oti l'hiyot Messiah!" -- Messiani (Μεσσιανί) -- a follower of the Messiah/Messias!]
29
And Sha'ul said, I would to Elohim that not only you but also all that hear me this day, were both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these bonds.
30
And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:
31
And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.
32
Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.
Chapter 27 Sha'ul Sails for Rome -- Storm and Shipwreck; The Angel of Elohim Appears to Sha'ul; All 276 Souls Saved; Wrecked at Malta
1
And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Sha'ul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.
2
And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia, one Aristarchus a Makedonian of Thessalonica being with us.
3
And the next day we touched at Sidon: and Julius courteously treated Sha'ul and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.
4
And when we had launched from there, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
5
And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.
6
And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy, and he put us in it.
7
And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarcely come opposite Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, opposite Salmone,
8
And hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called the Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.
9
Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the Tzom (the Fast) was now already past, Sha'ul admonished them: [The Tzom -- Yom Kippur! The great Fast of the whole year! Falling in late September/October -- after which Mediterranean sailing was extremely dangerous. A critical calendar marker!]
10
And said unto them, Men, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the cargo and ship, but also of our nefashot (souls).
11
Nevertheless, the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship more than those things which were spoken by Sha'ul.
12
And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart from there also, if by any means they might attain to Phoenix, and there to winter -- which is a haven of Crete and lies toward the southwest and northwest.
13
And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing from there, they sailed close by Crete.
14
But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind called Euroclydon.
15
And when the ship was caught and could not face the wind, we let her drive.
16
And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
17
Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and fearing lest they should fall into the Quicksands, they struck sail and so were driven.
18
And being exceedingly tossed with the tempest, the next day they lightened the ship:
19
And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
20
And when neither shemesh nor stars appeared in many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all tikvah that we should be saved was then taken away.
21
But after long abstinence, Sha'ul stood forth in the midst of them and said, Men, you should have hearkened unto me and not have loosed from Crete and to have gained this harm and loss.
22
And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's nefesh among you, but of the ship.
23
For there stood by me this night the malach (angel) of Elohim, whose I am and whom I serve,
24
Saying, Al tira (Fear not), Sha'ul! You must be brought before Caesar: and behold, Elohim has given you all them that sail with you. [Al tira -- the classic divine reassurance! cf. Gen.15:1; Isa.41:10; Dan.10:12!]
25
Wherefore, men, be of good cheer: for I believe Elohim, that it shall be even as it was told me.
26
Howbeit, we must be cast upon a certain island.
27
But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic, about chatzot (midnight) the sailors deemed that they drew near to some country:
28
And sounded and found twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again and found fifteen fathoms.
29
Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern and wished for the day.
30
And as the sailors were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under pretense as though they would have cast anchors out of the bow,
31
Sha'ul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, you cannot be saved.
32
Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat and let her fall off.
33
And while the day was coming on, Sha'ul besought them all to take food, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that you have waited and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
34
Wherefore I pray you to take some food: for this is for your health -- for there shall not a hair fall from the head of any of you. [1 Sam.14:45 -- "lo yipol se'arah m'rosho artzah" -- not a hair of his head shall fall! David's oath about Yehonatan!]
35
And when he had thus spoken, he took bread and gave todah (thanks) to Elohim in the presence of them all, and when he had broken it, he began to eat. [Sha'ul's betziat halechem before 276 nefashot (souls) at sea -- the Todah blessing over bread!]
36
Then were they all of good cheer and they also took some food.
37
And we were in all in the ship two hundred and seventy-six nefashot (souls).
38
And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and cast out the wheat into the yam (sea).
39
And when it was day, they did not recognize the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
40
And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the yam and loosed the rudder bands, and hoisted up the mainsail to the wind and made toward shore.
41
And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast and remained immovable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
42
And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out and escape.
43
But the centurion, willing to save Sha'ul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the yam (sea) and get to land:
44
And the rest, some on boards and some on broken pieces of the ship: and so it came to pass that they escaped all safe to land.
Chapter 28 On Malta -- Sha'ul Bitten by a Viper, Unharmed; Sha'ul Heals Publius' Father; Arrival in Rome; Sha'ul Speaks to the Yahudim of Rome -- Isa.6:9-10; Two Years Preaching the Malkhut Elohim Freely
1
And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita (Malta).
2
And the barbarous am showed us no little kindness: for they kindled an esh and received us every one because of the present rain and because of the cold.
3
And when Sha'ul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the esh, there came a nachash (serpent) out of the heat and fastened on his hand. [Nachash -- the serpent! cf. Mark 16:18 -- "they shall take up serpents"! And Num.21 -- Moshe and the bronze nachash!]
4
And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom though he has escaped the yam, yet Vengeance suffers him not to live.
5
And he shook off the beast into the esh (fire) and felt no harm.
6
Howbeit, they looked when he should have swollen or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was an Elohim. [They went from "murderer" to "Elohim" -- both wrong! The pattern of human extremism toward the shlichim throughout Acts!]
7
In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose Shem (Name) was Publius, who received us and lodged us three days courteously.
8
And it came to pass that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of dysentery, to whom Sha'ul entered in and prayed and laid his hands on him and healed him.
9
So when this was done, others also which had diseases in the island came and were healed:
10
Who also honored us with many honors, and when we departed, they laden us with such things as were necessary.
11
And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
12
And landing at Syracuse we remained there three days.
13
And from there we made a circuit and came to Rhegium, and after one day the south wind blew and we came the next day to Puteoli:
14
Where we found achim and were invited to remain with them seven days: and so we went toward Roma (Rome).
15
And from there, when the achim (brothers) heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum and the Three Tavernes: whom when Sha'ul saw, he gave todah (thanks) to Elohim and took courage. [The kehillah of Roma comes out to meet Sha'ul on the Via Appia! The fulfillment of Ch.23:11 -- "you must also bear witness in Roma"!]
16
And when we came to Roma, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Sha'ul was permitted to dwell by himself, with a soldier that kept him.
17
And it came to pass that after three days, Sha'ul called the chiefs of the Yahudim together. And when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and achim, though I have committed nothing against the am or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Yerushalayim into the hands of the Romi'im (Romans).
18
Who when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
19
But when the Yahudim spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar -- not that I had anything to accuse my nation of.
20
For this cause therefore I have called for you, to see you and to speak with you: because for the Tikvah (hope) of Yisrael I am bound with this chain. [THE TIKVAH OF Yisrael! -- Not "a new religion" -- but the great tikvah (hope) OF Yisrael, the Messianin (followers of the Messiah/Messias) promise to the fathers, the tkhiyat hameitim (resurrection of the dead) -- this is why Sha'ul is bound!]
21
And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Yehudah concerning you, neither any of the achim that came showed or spoke any harm of you.
22
But we desire to hear of you what you think: for as concerning this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against.
23
And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging, to whom he expounded and testified the malkhut (kingdom) Elohim, persuading them concerning Yeshua, both out of the Torah of Moshe and out of the neviim, from morning till evening. [A full-day Torah study session! From Torah and Neviim, pointing to Yeshua HaMashiach!]
24
And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
25
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after Sha'ul had spoken one word: Well did the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh speak through Yesha'yahu HaNavi unto our fathers,
26
Saying, Go unto this am and say: Hearing you shall hear and shall not understand, and seeing you shall see and not perceive. [LXX Isa.6:9 -- "Shema shamo'a v'al tamin" -- the great throne vision! Already cited in Matt.13:14, Mark 4:12, Luke 8:10, Yochanan 12:40!]
27
For the lev of this am has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes have they closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their lev, and should return, and I should heal them. [LXX Isa.6:10 -- the fullest citation in the NT! "Hashmen lev ha'am hazeh..."]
28
Be it known therefore unto you that the yeshuah (salvation) of Elohim is sent unto the goyim (nations/Gentiles), and they will hear it.
29
And when he had said these words, the Yahudim departed and had great reasoning among themselves.
30
And Sha'ul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
31
Proclaiming the malkhut (kindom) Elohim and teaching those things which concern the Master Yeshua HaMashiach, with all boldness -- no man forbidding him. [The final word: "akolutos" -- UNHINDERED! The Besorah cannot be stopped! And from Roma, Ch.29 opens: Sha'ul sets sail for Spain and Britain!]
Chapter 29 Sha'ul Departs Rome for Spain and Britain; The Lost Tzon of Beit Yisrael; Raphinus (Sandwich, Kent); Mount Lud (London) -- The Besorah Preached; Pontius Pilate's End in Helvetia; Sha'ul's Final Testimony -- The Derekh Shall Not Be Hindered Throughout All Generations
1
And Sha'ul, full of the blessings of HaMashiach (Messiah), and abounding in the Ruach (Spirit), departed out of Roma (Rome), determining to go into Spain, for he had a long time proposed to journey there, and was minded also to go from there to Britain.
2
For he had heard in Phoenicia that some of the B'nei (sons of) Yisrael, about the time of the Assyrian captivity, had escaped by sea to the Isles far off, as spoken by the Navi, and called by the Romans Britain. [2 Esdras 13:40-47; Isa.11:11 -- the Isles afar off!]
3
And no man hindered Sha'ul: for he testified boldly of Yeshua before the officials and among the people, and he took with him some of the achim (brothers) which abode with him at Roma (Rome), and they took shipping at Ostia and having the winds fair, were brought safely into a sanctuary of Spain.
4
And many people gathered together from the towns and villages and the hill country, for they heard of the conversion of the shlichim and the many miracles which he had done.
5
And Sha'ul preached mightily in Spain, and great multitudes believed and were converted, for they perceived he was a shaliach sent from Elohim.
6
And Yahuah commanded the Besorah to be preached far hence to the goyim (nations/Gentiles), and to the lost tzon (flock) of Beit Yisrael. [Matt.10:6; Isa.11:11]
7
And they departed out of Spain, and Sha'ul and his company found a ship in Armorica sailing to Britain, and sailed in it, and passed along the south coast, until they reached a port called Raphinus. [Raphinus -- the Roman Shem (Name) for Sandwich in Kent; an ancient house stood there called the House of the shlichim]
8
Now when it was voiced abroad that the shaliach had landed on their coast, great multitudes of the inhabitants met him, and they treated Sha'ul courteously, and he entered in at the east gate of their city, and lodged in the house of an Ivri, one of his own nation.
9
And on the next day, he came and stood upon Mount Lud, and the people crowded at the gate and assembled in the Broadway, and he preached of HaMashiach (Messiah) to them, and they believed the Davar and testimony of Yeshua. [Mount Lud -- Lud-gate Hill and Broadway, where Beit Sha'ul (St. Sha'ul (Paul/Saul)'s Cathedral) stands in London today]
10
And at evening the Ruach HaKodesh fell upon Sha'ul, and he prophesied, saying, In the last days the Elohei HaShalom will dwell in the cities, and its inhabitants will be numbered: and in the seventh numbering of the people, their eyes shall be opened, and the kavod (glory) of their inheritance will shine before them. The goyim (nations/Gentiles) will come up to worship on the mount that testifies of the savlanut (Patience) and tolerance of an eved (servant) of Yahuah.
11
And in the latter days news of the Besorah shall issue out of Yerushalayim, and the levot (hearts) of the people will rejoice, and fountains will be opened, and there will be no more plague.
12
In those days there will be wars and rumors of war, and a king will rise up, and his sword will be for the healing of the goyim (nations/Gentiles), and his shalom-making will abide, and the kavod (glory) of his malkhut (kingdom)will be a wonder among princes.
13
And it came to pass that some of the Druids came to Sha'ul privately, and showed by their rites and ceremonies that they were descended from the Yahudim which escaped from bondage in Mitzrayim, and the shaliach believed these things, and he gave them the kiss of shalom.
14
And Sha'ul abode in his lodging three months, confirming in the emunah (faith) and preaching HaMashiach (Messiah) continually.
15
And after these things, Sha'ul and his achim (brothers) departed from Raphinus and sailed to Atium in Gaul.
16
And Sha'ul preached in the Roman garrison and among the people, exhorting all men to do teshuvah (repentance) and confess their sins.
17
And there came to him some of the Belgae to inquire of him of the new doctrine and of the man Yeshua, and Sha'ul opened his lev (heart) to them and told them all things that had happened to him, how it came about that HaMashiach (Messiah) Yeshua came into the world to save sinners, and they departed, considering among themselves the things which they had heard.
18
And after much preaching and labor, Sha'ul and his fellow laborers passed into Helvetia, and came to the mountain of Pontius Pilate, where he who condemned Master Yeshua dashed himself down headlong and so miserably perished.
19
And immediately a stream gushed out of the mountain and washed his body, broken in pieces, into a lake.
20
And Sha'ul stretched out his hands upon the mayim and prayed to Yahuah, saying, O Yahuah Elohim, give a sign for all goyim (nations/Gentiles), that here Pontius Pilate who condemned your only-begotten Ben (son) perished.
21
And while Sha'ul was speaking, a great ra'ash (earthquake) came, and the face of the mayim was changed, and the form of the lake was like that of the Ben Adam hanging in agony upon HaEtz (the Tree/cross).
22
And a voice came out of Shamayim, saying, Even Pilate has escaped the wrath to come, for he washed his hands before the multitude at the shedding of the dam of Master Yeshua.
23
When therefore Sha'ul and those that were with him saw the ra'ash (earthquake) and heard the voice of the malach, they glorified Elohim and were greatly strengthened in the Ruach (Spirit).
24
And they journeyed and came to the mount of Julius where stood two pillars, one on the right hand and one on the left, erected by Caesar Augustus.
25
And Sha'ul, filled with the Ruach (Spirit) HaKodesh, stood up between the two pillars, saying, Men and achim (brothers), these stones which you see today will testify of my journey here; and truly I say, they will remain until the outpouring of the Ruach (Spirit) upon all goyim (nations/Gentiles), neither will the derekh (way/path) be hindered throughout all generations.
26
And they went out and came to Illtricum, intending to go by Macedonia into Asia, and chen (grace) was found in all the kehillot (assembly), and they prospered and had shalom. Amein.
